To protect western ghats, Govt of India set-up Madhav Gadgil committee, that said, all areas of the ghats be protected & giving power to locals but GoI refused, setup a Kasturirangan, which identified 1/3rd of ghats as sensitive region, now Govt of KA setting up 3rd committee 1/3
JUST IN | Sending a strong message against the proposal to declare parts of the Western Ghats as ecologically sensitive areas (ESAs), the Karnataka Legislative Council on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution opposing the K Kasturirangan report on the Western Ghats.
Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who tabled the resolution, informed the Council that a committee headed by a retired judge would be set up and a physical survey would be done to assess the impact of the report on the livelihoods of people living in the region. He said the survey would be completed in a year.

Do you know that #Elephants are the civil engineers of our #Forests?
Every forest walk reveals how they quietly reshape the landscape. Their massive feet create and maintain trails that are later used by deer, gaurs, rhinos, tigers, and even people. These pathways improve movement through dense forests and grasslands.
Elephants are also nature’s farmers. An adult eats well over 100 kilograms of leaves, bark, fruits, grasses, and twigs every day. Many seeds pass through their digestive system unharmed and are deposited, along with nutrient-rich dung, sometimes many kilometres away from the parent tree. This helps forests regenerate, connects plant populations, and supports biodiversity.
As they move through streams and wetlands, they also influence water flow and create small natural openings that benefit many other species.
