Under the Earned Settlement model set out before Parliament today, the right to live in the UK permanently will no longer be granted automatically after five years.
Instead, it will be earned.
Under the reforms:
➡️The standard route to settlement will double from five to 10 years
➡️ People who enter illegally, including by small boat, face a wait of up to 30 years to settle
➡️ Care workers who meet the visa requirements will retain a five-year route
➡️ Higher earners on more than £50,000, skilled public service workers and refugees arriving on safe and legal routes will be able to settle in five years
➡️ Migrants who claim benefits face a 20-year wait for settlement
➡️ Migrants with a criminal record will be prevented from settling in the UK
➡️ Migrants will be required to meet A-level standard English to settle in the UK

Thank you to everyone who shared, the young man has been hired.
An Economics graduate wrote to me and asked me to share his plea for a job as a driver in Harare.
He is 30 years old, holds a degree in Economics from a university in China, and has spent the past three years working as an inDrive driver. He holds a Class 4 driver's licence. For the past three weeks, the vehicle he was using has been off the road with mechanical problems, and he does not have the money to repair it.
He is not asking for a handout. He is asking for work. He will take any driving job, be it a school run, a company driver role or a family driver position.
He also brings something extra. As an Economics graduate, he could help your children with their homework, especially mathematics and economics.
If you are in Harare and need a reliable driver, please give this young man a chance. You can reach him on 0783 599 929.
A job can change a life. Please share.

My father would not let anyone service his plane except himself. This photo was taken in Australia. My parents were the only people to fly in a single propeller plane from South Africa, up Africa, over Asia and across the ocean to Australia, and back. Nerve-racking!!!
1955 Joshua Norman Haldeman (maternal grandfather of Elon Musk) and his wife Winnifred Haldeman (Wyn) next to their single-engine airplane (the Bellanca Cruisair named "Winnie“).
Elon Musk has confirmed that he acquired the airplane from a collector and is currently having it restored to its flyable condition.

This is actually a true story. By the way today is our official 19th anniversary. The day was eventful but I thank Gweshegweshe because he had a humorous way of diffusing uncomfortable situations.
The first one, I had been given a list of groceries that I was supposed to buy. I am not really good with structured grocery shopping, so I just went into Choppies and bought as much as I could of things I thought could be on the list.
Now comes the reconciliation time, they check pakanzi sipo 10, hadzipo, but there are 20 ma canned beef which were not on the list. They deliberated until I overheard Gweshegweshe say "Mukwasha akatenga zvisiri palist kunyangwe zviri more than the value yezviripo, azvidza dare" Fortunately my munyai was my wife's uncle vakazongouchirana ikoko.
Around lunch time my friend Gwata gets stuck in the toilet. The toilet door would not open. Vana Gweshegweshe vakatozopinda busy kupaza door. I remember him saying "Mukwasha kuparadza musha watezvara nefirst day, ngaaripiswe!!!"
Then came the last part where vakwasha are then called in for formal introductions. I get in, everyone is in suits and I am in military cargo pants and shirt. Haaa Gweshegweshe goes ballistic. "Masoja akapfeka suit iwe wakapfeka makhaki!!! Vakwasha ngavaripe!!!!" We ended up paying nekurova gusvu.
Ma castle ndokutanga kuchitenderera. He made our day smooth and memorable. Life. RIP

King Charles III is 1 of only 3 people who can travel anywhere on Earth legally without a passport. 🇬🇧
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Charles III does not require a British passport as all British passports are issued in his name. However, this does not grant him the right to travel anywhere as countries control their own borders. Other people can also receive passport waivers under country-specific rules.

All employees come in 5 levels, choose wisely:
Level 1 - tells you there's a problem
Level 2 - tells you there's a problem and what caused it
Level 3 - tells you there's a problem, what caused it, and options to fix it
Level 4 - tells you there's a problem, what caused it, options to fix it, and which one they'd pick
Level 5 - tells you there was a problem, what caused it, how they fixed it, and future proof’d it

I had a dream, and in that dream I was told that every Zimbabwean who believes in prayer should pray for the next thirty days. Those who believe in African Traditional Religion should kneel down and speak to the Almighty in their own way.
The prayer is that a dark cloud, which will soon pass over our country, does so without bloodshed.
I was told that a major decision is about to be taken. Depending on how it is taken, it could bring bloodshed, or it could bring peace, if all Zimbabweans seek divine intervention.
Atheists, take a holiday. That is all I saw, and all I was told, in that dream.

PPC has finally sold its 418ha Arlington property for $27m. The cement company says the buyer “is a privately held Zimbabwean company associated with property holdings in Zimbabwe”.
PPC bought the land in 1990, but Govt seized it in 2010. It was returned to the cement maker in 2024 and is zoned for commercial, industrial and residential development.
Earlier this year, a $30m sale to developer Transvaal Africa fell through after the buyer missed a payment deadline. Transvaal said at the time that it couldn't go ahead with the deal because of legal action over the land and Govt plans to use part of it for airport expansion.
PPC says the land “does not contain any limestone deposits and PPCZ has no commercial use” for it in its cement business.
Zimbabwe is currently PPC Africa’s best-performing market, and the company plans to build a new plant to meet rising demand.
PPC Zim has put its 418ha Arlington land back on the market after Transvaal Africa failed to pay the agreed US$30 million on time.
“The Arlington Property remains a non-core asset and any other purchase offers PPCZ may receive will be considered on their merits.”
Transvaal Africa had announced plans to build a “cargo village” on the site, near RGM International Airport. The company was co-founded by Patson Moyo and Nomvuyo Dube.
