State agencies responding to tragedy (and who should often have prevented tragedy) need to hold at front of minds one key principle. The terrible thing does the initial harm but you as responders are capable of doing terrible harms also
This news comes at a time when so many individuals and communities are living with the effects of trauma. I feel so privileged to be able to focus on what can be done to support them, prevent and treat mental health problems, and help with the process of recovery.
I look forward to continuing to develop UCL’s work in the area of trauma and mental health – and am really excited to be co-directing the new online MSc in Psychology and Trauma which we are launching in September. ucl.ac.uk/prospective-studen…
