Be honest. Is your vote your own or your social circle’s? Voting with the crowd is easy. Thinking for ourselves takes work. We have freedom of thought until someone disagrees, then we cancel.

William H. Whyte Jr. coined “groupthink” in 1952, later exploring conformity in The Organization Man (1956). George Orwell explored the dangers of controlled thought in 1984 (1949). The Gossips — Norman Rockwell, 1948.

We grow up watching violence in movies, television and video games. But show a naked body, especially one expressing sexual desire and suddenly everyone is worried about morality 🤔

Why are humans so comfortable looking at destruction and so uncomfortable looking at desire?

Is AI stealing from artists? Imagine spending decades developing a style so distinctive that people recognize your work instantly. Then someone types your name into an AI generator and produces something that looks like yours in seconds.

In 1987, Andres Serrano photographed a plastic crucifix submerged in his own urine. He called it Piss Christ. The work sparked outrage, death threats, and accusations of blasphemy.

Serrano, a Catholic, wasn’t necessarily attacking religion. He was questioning how someone sacred became humiliated by society. If art can’t challenge what we consider sacred, what’s the point of artistic freedom?

Culture always starts as selfish, delusional, obscene and incoherent because we don’t yet have the framework through which to understand it.

AI can imitate culture but it cannot create a cultural revolution from scratch.

AI art feels impersonal because life in 2026 is impersonal.

Photographers are the artist group that is most scared of AI.

Funny how photographers forget painters said cameras were just a tool 200 years ago. And that photography wasn’t art because you can make it with the click of one finger and endlessly reproduce it.

AI art is also art that uses the machine as a tool. Just because it's art doesn't mean it's good art. Most of it is derivative trash right now, but a curator's job is to separate the actual breakthroughs from the digital noise.
