South Sumter’s Tanner Rumer Bounces Back From ACL Tear 🏈🔥 South Sumter High senior linebacker Tanner Rumer has wasted little time reminding opponents why he was on pace for a massive breakout campaign a year ago. Through the first two games of the season, Tanner has piled up 19 tackles and a team-high nine tackles for loss, anchoring a Raiders defense that has already made its presence felt this season. The production comes after a devastating ACL tear last season that cut short what coaches and teammates believed would be a dominant junior year. Tanner suffered the injury midway through the 2025 season. He underwent surgery in November, and spent the next seven to eight months grinding through rehabilitation and recovery. “Last year my season was cut short due to an ACL injury,” Rumer says. “I feel like I have been playing at a high level because I had so much anticipation leading up to the season. I understand that you can never know which game is your last so that motivated me to work hard in the offseason and perform at a high level during games.” South Sumter head coach Ty Lawrence has watched the entire process unfold and calls Tanner the embodiment of what the program seeks to develop. “Special kid,” Lawrence says. “He tore his ACL last year midway through the season so he has had a surgery and therapy and worked hard to get back to playing. He has worked really hard to get back for this season. This young man does everything the right way. He is a great student and he’s also taking college courses. Tanner is a coaches dream.
