VAW 2026 – Outreach Activity: Elocution Competition at Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM Nagpur)
As part of Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, an outreach activity in the form of an Elocution Competition was organized at the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM Nagpur) on the theme “Probity for Prosperity” / सत्यनिष्ठा से समृद्धि.
A total of 17 enthusiastic students participated in the competition and shared their thoughts and perspectives on probity, integrity and ethical values. The platform provided students with an opportunity to reflect upon the significance of ethical conduct, honesty and transparency, while highlighting the role of integrity in building a prosperous society.
The initiative aimed to promote awareness among young minds and to inspire them to uphold probity as a way of life.

WCL Inter-Area Kabaddi Tournament 2026–27 Concludes Successfully!
The WCL Inter-Area Kabaddi Tournament 2026–27, organised by Wani North Area for both men and women, was successfully held from 2nd to 4th November 2026 at Durga Puja Ground, Bhalar, Wani. The tournament witnessed tremendous enthusiasm, sportsmanship and competitive spirit, with players from various teams demonstrating exceptional sporting skills, discipline, teamwork and determination.
The valedictory and prize distribution ceremony was graced by Shri Bikram Ghosh, Director (Finance & Human Resources), WCL, as the Chief Guest alongwith WCL Steering Committe as well as WCL Welfare Board members & Shri A K Sinha , TS to D(HR) , WCL. Addressing the participants, he highlighted that sports extend far beyond winning and losing, playing a vital role in fostering self-confidence, discipline, leadership and team spirit. Specially appreciating the enthusiastic participation and commendable performance of women players, he encouraged them to recognise their potential, believe in their abilities and pursue their aspirations with confidence and determination. He emphasised that women's participation and achievements in sports are powerful expressions of empowerment and progress. Encouraging them to overcome challenges fearlessly, he urged them to seize every opportunity to showcase their talent and excel. He further underlined that determination to succeed, dedication to hard work and unwavering self-belief are the cornerstones of achievement.
In the women's category, Team Majri emerged as the Winner, while Team _Ballarpur Area secured the Runner-up position. In the men's category, Team Chandrapur emerged as the Winner, with Team Majri finishing Runner-up. Heartiest congratulations to all the winning and runner-up teams. Appreciation is also extended to all participating players for their spirited performances, dedication and exemplary sportsmanship.
The successful conduct of the tournament was made possible through the valuable support and concerted efforts of the Area Welfare Committee, Wani North Area, members and all officials, organisers and associates involved in the event. Shri Sanjay M. Mishra, Area General Manager, Wani North Area, along with other distinguished guests and senior officials, was also present on the occasion and encouraged the participants.
The tournament served as a vibrant platform for fostering camaraderie, strengthening team spirit and promoting a culture of fitness, healthy competition and inclusivity. It also reaffirmed WCL's commitment to encouraging sporting excellence, empowering women and providing equal opportunities for all employees to showcase their abilities.

Visit of Maharashtra Tourism Department Team to Murpar UG Mine
Today on 03.11.2026, Shri Prashant Sawai, Deputy Director, Maharashtra Tourism Department along with his team visited Murpar Underground Mine, Umrer Area, WCL in connection with the proposed Eco-Tourism project as part of repurposing of closed / abandoned mine site.
The team was briefed about the history of Murpar UG Mine, its present status, safety measures and future potential for development as an Eco-Tourism destination. The possibility of development of Mine Tourism, and other allied facilities was discussed.
Shri Ram Bhuwan Verma, GM (Mining)/GM (Operation), Umrer Area, Shri . Mohan Rajurkar, S. O ( Civil) and other Area officials were present during the visit.

सेवानिवृत्ति के बाद भी अपने कर्मचारियों के प्रति WCL की जिम्मेदारी और संवेदनशीलता का भाव निरंतर बना हुआ है। इसी मानवीय सोच का एक प्रेरक उदाहरण हाल ही में सामने आया। चंद्रपुर प्रवास के दौरान WCL के विभागाध्यक्ष (सुरक्षा) ले. क. (डॉ) विक्रांत मल्हान ने भद्रावती तहसील में अकेले रह रहीं सेवानिवृत्त प्रधान सुरक्षा प्रहरी श्रीमती शांताबाई नामदेव राव बेलकूदे के निवास पर पहुँचकर उनका कुशलक्षेम जाना। श्रीमती बेलकूदे ने माजरी क्षेत्र की चारगांव एवं उसना खदान उपक्षेत्र में सुरक्षा विभाग को 23 वर्षों तक अपनी महत्वपूर्ण सेवाएँ प्रदान की हैं। इस अवसर पर WCL के विभागाध्यक्ष (सुरक्षा) ले. क. (डॉ) विक्रांत मल्हान द्वारा श्रीमती शांताबाई नामदेव राव बेलकूदे चिकित्सा लाभ से संबंधित प्रक्रिया के लिए WCL के नवप्रारंभित 'कल्याण सेतु' ऐप का उपयोग किया गया। यह पहल केवल तकनीक के प्रभावी उपयोग की कहानी नहीं, बल्कि उस भरोसे और अपनत्व का प्रतीक है, जो WCL अपने प्रत्येक कर्मचारी और सेवानिवृत्त कर्मी के प्रति रखता है।

WCL Creates History – Leads India with Highest Ever 7 Prestigious 5-Star National level Awards.
In a remarkable achievement that brings immense pride to Western Coalfields Limited, seven of its mines have been conferred with the prestigious 5-Star Rating Awards by the Government of India — the highest number of such awards received by any coal company in the country. This outstanding national recognition reflects WCL's leadership in mining excellence and its commitment to the highest standards of safety, sustainability and operational performance.
The award-winning mines comprise four underground mines – Patansaongi UG, Nandgaon Incline, Saoner Mine No. 1 and Saoner Mine No. 2 – and three opencast mines – MKD-I OC, MKD-III OC and Mungoli OC.
The prestigious awards were presented by the Hon'ble Minister of State for Coal, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, in the presence of Shri Satish Kumar, Coal Controller; Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal, and other senior officials. The ceremony was graced by Shri B. Sairam, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Coal India Limited; Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, WCL; Shri Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, SECL; CMDs of other CIL subsidiaries and coal companies; and senior officials from CIL subsidiaries and other coal companies.
On behalf of WCL, the awards were received by the CMD, WCL, along with General Manager (Safety), WCL, and Area General Managers of Nagpur Area, Umrer Area, Wani Area and Chandrapur Area.
This exceptional accomplishment reflects WCL's unwavering commitment to safe, sustainable and responsible mining, backed by the dedication, professionalism and collective efforts of its workforce. Securing the highest number of 5-Star Rating Awards in the country is a significant milestone that further reinforces WCL's position as a leader in India's coal mining industry.
