I hold no illusions that everyone we look up to and love will live forever, but it's living up to the example they leave behind that sometimes seems insurmountable. Patrick's performance as Jean-Luc was so defining to me when I was younger. His humanity even more so.

He was my captain, my professor, and my emperor, and I will miss him terribly.

Couldn’t settle between two quotes from Picard so here’s both of them: “It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.” “Things are only impossible until they are not.”

As a reminder to all imperial subjects, any use of abominable intelligence will be met with swift and righteous fury. No exceptions.

Aside from the mass effect depression, I did get a chance to play the Dawn of War 4 closed beta. I only played 4 hours spread over multiple skirmish games, had other obligations, but walked away pretty happy. Space Marines and Necrons I played the most.

To slim it down, the game feels like a genuine effort to combine elements of all three games, but leans more toward DoW1+2. There's elements borrowed from other RTS as well. It's VERY customisable. Lotta sliders you can play with. Very tailorable.

I'm still a bit iffy on the post-launch plans and some performance concerns with multiple armies but from what I played a lot of my concerns were addressed. I do miss the old voice acting, but I wonder if someone will mod that. The old method is very easy to make in audacity lol

Romain Toutain revealed more about Mass Effect 5/Universe (this one really stings): ✨"The Shepard" was customizable and could do same moves in real combat as trailer ✨Everything in game was "stateful" ✨All choices from 1-3 taken into account ✨Called Universe so you could plug your saves together to create parallel universes (simplified explanation) but you could almost generate timelines similar to Zero Time ✨You could make decisions that might contradict things you've already done and so it would create plot "points" in the timeline ✨Missions didn't fail because you killed someone, paths would remain open (it worked well) ✨Absolute autonomy was the cornerstone of the game ✨No two players would experience the same thing, would have "experienced the same story but differently" ✨"EA never sells anything. they just shut things down and sit on their licenses" ✨Barman was a new race ✨Lore was incredible around new mass relays ✨"Billy" the hand thing might have generated tentacles ✨Was an idea for sharing your saves ✨He says it was fucking amazing it was an absolute banger and we would have loved it. The people at BioWare were brilliant FUCK Source - bsky.app/profile/loustica-lu…

re: Ebert occasionally "missing" on a great movie, I think people forget that the point of criticizing art is not to be "correct," it's to engage with the work sincerely; a critic should be evaluated less on "correctness" and more the consistency/depth of their work

I see the point Ian's making, but the thing about "faith" in the broader warhammer picture is that it's so integral to the world. In a universe that is uncaring, dystopic and hopeless, it's faith that contrasts these aspects. Because without it, what are we fighting for?
How would this even work? Faith is extremely important to the chaos side of things so why would only Imperial/loyalists faith be useless? Also faith is deeply interwoven with emotion and should by all accounts have a massive impact in the Warp.

I see his point that it does feel a little too superhero sometimes and it DOES contradict stuff like in Pariah Nexus, but that's the thing; faith has become so overwhelmingly present that miracles actually happen. "It just works."

It's also nice to have stories where even the faithful question their place in it. It's human to have self-doubts and try to make sense of things through what we know. It might force a change in you, redefine your perspective or utterly destroy you. All good angles for stories.
