sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources
“a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre
but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time
you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment
somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”

Someone asked if I was ready for the fall and it took me a second to realize they meant autumn and not the total collapse of society.
There are SO many parallels here to the labor movement, strikes, and what power and agency we allow our employers to make us think we don’t have
I think people are spending way too much time talking about the 2030 release date and not nearly enough time talking about how freaking fantrastic this StarCraft cinematic is.
It tells an entire story.
We follow Holt through recruitment, training, deployment, and ultimately his death. Then the war machine simply starts over with the next recruit.
The Dominion sells Holt's (and all recruit's) sacrifice as heroism, feeds another soldier into the war, and keeps moving.
Yeah, yeah 2030 is a far away... but this trailer told us a LOT about the tone and story they’re going for, and I think that deserves more attention.
