Assuming I can build them in any way possible and it's one at a time

>Chimchar is pretty much infernape light. Might get knocked out before it can do a second attack though.
In brief
If it learns a rock type move, and you're allowed to build around it, Totodile, Cyndaquil and Chimchar for backup. (Free $100!!)
If it comes as is like it was found in the wild, Marshtomp or mega Swampert (seriously why is this here) (you earned $20)
If you want to be a cheeky asshole, Eevee, Treecko, Cyndaquil or Pikachu (can mix/take more than one)
Last night while sleeping my leg spasm'd real hard and I woke up today feeling less like wanting to keel over. So maybe I can finally get around to cleaning my room so I can get a pathway for my mattress out of here for the new one finally!
The worst part about this is that you can apply this to just about any video game series before 2000. There's probably a scant few that made the mark but most trilogies are good right before the turn of the millennium.
Here's some off the top of my head.
Super Mario bros (excluding lost levels)
Metroid
Kid icarus
Sonic the hedgehog (even including sonic CD and splitting 3 and knuckles)
F-zero (console games only)
Pokemon (counting only generations, so Ruby and sapphire)
Marvel vs Capcom (not including previous titles such as xmen vs street fighter)
Tekken 3
Mario and Luigi RPG
Super Smash bros.
Sonic Advance
Street fighter EX
Dragon quest
Halo (one of two franchises past 2000 that hit this mark)
Wario Land (and by technicality Mario Land)
And my personal favorite to bring up
Guitar Hero III (the OTHER of the two franchises past 2000)
The only real outlier here in this is kid icarus. Every other game took the formula that made precious entries so good, and made them so much better. Kid icarus had a huge genre shift, making it one of the most beloved games on the 3ds, even if the control scheme is something left to be desired (hope you're not left-handed or suffer carpal tunnel!)
Zelda almost made the list but I have a bias towards Zelda II. That game is still alienating to some people.
Finally, I could stretch the rules a bit and say the windows era of Touhou (starting with Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and not counting the fighting game spinoff after the entry after this one) are really great, and each one is better than the next. In fact, I'd put Touhou Hisoutensoku on the list since it's technically the third entry in the fighting game spinoffs.
