The first German state „East Francia“ with the „Duchy of Thuringia“ west of the Saale river in 843 AD
Now its clear that Thuringi = - Hermunduri, Angles, Warini - Hassleben Celts - Romans from Croatia Thuringi have only 20% continuity east of the Saale river, but real continuity west of it because the Frankish Duchy of Thuringia

Haßleben, Grave 8 (R11877), Elite female from 270 AD. Looks more Gothic than Hermunduric, but her archaeological group is not connected to Wielbark.
The 10 most important Germanic graves. The cutoff is 300 AD because im not too interested in the late ones which slowly go in the Medieval direction

The Hassleben Leuna group, described as Elbe Germanic, but i think they are Rhine Weser Germanic because of their profile and because Hassleben, like Hessen, is named after the Chatti/Hassi. The Gommern chieftain was also identified as Chatti. Alpines as far north as Thuringia.

Because of their extreme geographical proximity, these samples provide a good insight into the unsampled Jastorf culture
Most of the Germanics in Czech_IA_LaTene plot on top of modern German variation. The 3 fresh from Scandinavia not, but the rest. They either started more Central or have Celtic. You can see in 2/2 that they are Nonlocal. Also look at modern PL versus the 7 unnamed PL_Medieval 1/2

Sweden_BA and Sweden_IA I think this Sweden_BA here is only one sample, but not sure could be more.
Netherlands_LBA compared to Netherlands_IA shows a low Steppe intrusion, Celts from the South and Germanics from the North, so that the pure Nordwestblock only existed in individuals in Tacitus time. Norway_IA is low Steppe high WHG.

Supplementary Tables, Gretzinger 2024, Steppe numbers of a few ancient groups. Franks are the uppermost. There is direct continuity from the Middle Bronze Age Lech population to later Celts, but Austria LaTene has 2% more Steppe than Lech MBA.

I was never a fan of his family, but i always believed they had at least reasonably good taste, well he himself certainly has not nitter.cf/EduardHabsburg/status/…
So I saw the Odyssey today. Loved it. Great movie. Yeah, I had a few quibbles, but great movie.

The Sorbs "In contrast, we do not observe this resurgence in the Slavic-speaking Sorbian population which retains CNE and BAL proportions more similar to the medieval Slavic population (18% and 54%, respectively)" Supplementary Gretzinger 2025. My model gives them even 55% BAL
Results of the study reproduced in G25. Managed to create the same difference between SP and BAL as the study. At the top: Same region that was modeled in the paper. At the bottom: Other East Germans with the same model.

Grave goods in their tombs of four Egyptian princesses included bows, arrows, and a dagger, but these likely weren’t just ceremonial weapons—the women's skeletons show they had strong upper-body muscles and healed injuries from regular archery training. archaeology.org/news/2026/07…
