Pershing Square is a War Memorial

Three girls from a conservative village in Garut, Indonesia.
In 2014 they were 14. They found System of a Down on a school computer. A teacher said start a band. They did.
Then the village answered.
Stones. Death threats. Smashed windows. Cars trying to run them down. Power cut mid-gig. “Devil’s music.” Haram. All because three hijab-wearing kids dared to play metal.
They named the band Voice of Baceprot. It means “noisy.”
This is them in France covering “Enter Sandman.” Leather jackets. Headscarves. Barefoot on the drums. No click track. No extra help. Just a trio that learned how to survive first, and play second.
Most covers try to honor Metallica.
This one feels like they earned the right to touch the song.
From hated noise in a small village… to a stage in Rennes, then Glastonbury, then the world.
That’s not a gimmick.
That’s defiance with a riff.

"I can’t say that I was a big Rush fan before. But I’m a Rush fan now!"
Negro League Museum President Bob Kendrick.
"The Geddy Lee Collection."
"Baseball was in my bones long before music started to seriously divert my attention."
Geddy Lee.
Geddy Lee donated over 600 baseballs autographed by black stars, including Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Josh Gibson to the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City.
"Over many decades, Geddy Lee has filled his office with baseball treasures.
He has a a 1917 Chicago White Sox ball signed by Shoeless Joe Jackson, a 1942 Negro Leagues ball signed by Josh Gibson, and a Mickey Mantle bat that’s been traced back to the 1960 World Series.
Lee also has a ball signed by The Beatles and four signed by John F. Kennedy.
It is a collection of Rock and Roll excess, but also of passion and stewardship."
"Baseballs?
Nobody owns them.
They’re like houses.
You take care of them for a while, and then they move on to the next person, the next custodian."
Geddy Lee.
Happy Anniversary, to those who celebrate! 💜

August 1st 1966 The Chambers Brothers record "Time Has Come Today" at Columbia Records' Los Angeles studios. Overdubbed with harpsichord, the single is released with a 2:37 running time and flops. A year later, an 11-minute version appears on their album The Time Has Come which becomes an FM radio favorite. In 1968, the song is once again released as a single, this time at 4:45. This version climbs to #11 in the US.
EXCLUSIVE: There’s some serious buzz in town that Sony is about to resuscitate the Cinerama Dome and Hollywood Arclight multiplex which has been shuttered since Covid 2020.
The Culver City lot is currently in talks, we hear, with the Robertson Property Group on lease to reopen the historical cinema venue.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, a group of Americans signed their names to a piece of parchment and made a promise no nation had ever made before: that we're all created equal, endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights — life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
We're the only nation in history built not on ethnicity, or blood, or geography but on an idea. That's always been what makes us exceptional. We chose that path 250 years ago but that’s where the work began, not where it ended. Every generation has had to choose it again. At Valley Forge, at Gettysburg, on the beaches of Normandy, in the streets of Selma. Americans recommitted themselves to the principles on which our nation was founded.
Now it's our turn.
There's nothing guaranteed about our democracy. We have to fight for it, defend it, and earn it. Over and over, year after year. That's not a burden. That's what it means to be an American.
250 years in, we still haven't fully lived up to those words in the Declaration. But we've never walked away from them, and this July 4, I hope all of us can commit to one thing: that we never will. I don't believe we're as divided as we're told we are. I've bet my whole life on the American people, and I'm not stopping now.
Happy 250th birthday, America. Our story isn't finished. Let's keep writing it together.

The Griffith Observatory atop Mt Hollywood was already an impressive even when it was being built. The caption said this photo was taken in 1933, but with construction starting on June 20, 1933 maybe it was more like 1934. Either way, those construction workers had a great view.
