If you are in town today and fancy some lunch or a lovely locally roasted coffee, we have got you sorted 😊
There is no ethnic group representing 21% of the Iranian parliament that is systematically excluded from the leading parliamentary coalition; 45% of the people Iran rules are not stateless and disenfranchised; Iran hasn't genocided 70,000 of the people it rules; it is a deeply flawed government but so is Israel's
Laurence Norman (@laurnorman) responds to me, an American foreign policy analyst who happens to be of Iranian heritage, discussing Israeli coalition politics by mocking Iran's elections, as though I'm responsible for the Iranian political system.
Yet another display of his overt bias and constant editorializing, but this one is especially egregious and prejudiced. Utterly unbecoming of a serious, credible journalist.

It used to be that everyone criticizing Israel was badly-informed and so shouldn't say anything, but now everybody criticizing Israel knows too much and so shouldn't say anything nitter.cf/infolibnews/status/211…

“My parents died years ago. I was very close to them. I still miss them terribly. I know I always will. I long to believe that their essence, their personalities, what I loved so much about them, are - really and truly - still in existence somewhere. I wouldn't ask very much, just five or ten minutes a year, say, to tell them about their grandchildren, to catch them up on the latest news, to remind them that I love them.
There's a part of me - no matter how childish it sounds - that wonders how they are. "Is everything all right?" I want to ask. The last words I found myself saying to my father, at the moment of his death, were "Take care."
Sometimes I dream that I'm talking to my parents, and suddenly - still immersed in the dreamwork - I'm seized by the overpowering realization that they didn't really die, that it's all been some kind of horrible mistake.
Why, here they are, alive and well, my father making wry jokes, my mother earnestly advising me to wear a muffler because the weather is chilly. When I wake up I go through an abbreviated process of mourning all over again. Plainly, there's something within me that's ready to believe in life after death. And it's not the least bit interested in whether there's any sober evidence for it.
So I don't guffaw at the woman who visits her husband's grave and chats him up every now and then, maybe on the anniversary of his death. It's not hard to understand. And if I have difficulties with the ontological status of who she's talking to, that's all right. That's not what this is about. This is about humans being human.”

“Arabs vote same as Israelis”.
Today is election day in Israel, which is a national holiday. All voting is in person, ID required. No mail-in or absentee ballots. Arabs vote same as Israelis. Contentious process, but it's a democracy-not many of those in this region!
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Arab voters are Israeli citizens. Listing them in contrast to Israelis is misconstruing the facts.

Tá an cúrsa #Gaeilge ag 'Say Something in' críochnaithe agam inniu, ar deireadh. Seo mo thuairim.
I gcás foghlaimeoirí atá níos forbartha, tá sé go maith chun cleachtadh a dhéanamh ar an labhairt. Ach ní cúrsa maith é do fhoghlaimeoirí nua. 1/2

"Q. How democratic is the Israeli vote – and who is being disenfranchised?
A: About 15 million people live in areas under Israeli control. Just over 7 million Jewish Israelis and 1.7 million Palestinian citizens of Israel live within the country’s pre-1967 borders, known as the “green line”, and have full voting rights.
In the occupied West Bank, more than 500,000 Israeli settlers can vote. They live among 3.1 million Palestinians who are subject to military rule and do not have the right to vote.
In occupied East Jerusalem more than 230,000 Israelis with voting rights live among 350,000 Palestinians who cannot vote.
Two million Palestinians in Gaza, who live under Israeli military occupation, according to the international court of justice, also have no vote."

Israel's defenders largely have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.
When challenged about the actual details, even they can't defend the glaring, screaming racism.
Mike Tapp: 'Zionism isn't ethnic cleansing!'
Shehab Khan: 'So why can a Jewish guy in London get Israeli citizenship but a displaced Palestinian can't?'
Mike Tapp: '...I didn't know that. That doesn't sound equal to me.'
The absolute intellectual collapse. He spent whole time defending the ideology, only to admit he doesn't know how it actually works on the ground

You’d never know by this post that the five Israelis are armed IDF soldiers. But they made sure to tell you the Palestinians were definitely the bad guys. Tried, convicted, and sentenced in one headline.

🚨 PLEASE SHARE!
I've written to both my children's schools following the Government's antisemitism review.
I WILL NOT accept genocide being presented as a two-sided political debate, or Palestinian history and suffering being erased from their education.
I've drafted a template which I'm sharing for other parents to use or adapt.
Political impartiality must NEVER become historical dishonesty.
Please use them. Challenge your schools. Demand answers.

The writing on a fur-covered keyboard actually had an end result. Very pleased that this will be out soon.

On what we’re witnessing among Britain’s liberal commentariat:
For years, debate on Israel was policed by an electric fence. Step beyond the bounds of acceptable opinion and you got a small shock: the insinuation, or the outright charge, of antisemitism. Most people learned where the wire ran and kept inside it.
But now the fence no longer works. We have watched a genocide livestreamed. We have seen what a supremacist ideology has always produced: apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and now genocide. Against that record, the old charge carries no current.
Crucially, the liberal commentariat has not adjusted. They just keep frantically pressing the switch, but the fuse has blown and the shock never comes. The horror this racist ethnostate has produced is now impossible to avoid and the fence is down.
History will not forget those who still stood guard at the fence, or how hard they worked to keep flipping a dud.
