I never realized how badly I need Jon Gruden in wrestling until now.
These guys at @Hawks_Wrestling are the best there is… what an honor to spend some time with them!!
2nd year in a row with no medal for Kadiev…
If only he didn’t have to go up against the @GlobalWresOrder curse.
Zain’s medal might be the most impressive of Team USA so far. Not the toughest weight, but Retherford decided he was going to do this just back in May.
Now he’s sitting in the finals of Trials for 2027, will be interesting to see where he takes things from here.
Kyle Dake wins 6-2 over Shavaev and advances to the semi finals! He will face Russia's Ibragim Kadiev for a chance at the World Title.
These two met earlier this year, Kadiev taking the match 11-4.
Zain Retherford gets Team USA back in the win column with a 7-0 win over Heybatov of Azerbaijan!
Zain will have a rematch against Ernazar Akmataliev in the semis, Akmataliev defeated Zain at RAF Georgia earlier this summer via a 3-3 criteria win.
Marcus Blaze drops a tightly contested match to Iran's Javan, 3-2. Very few opportunities to score from either side and the score reflected that.
This is Team USA's first loss in Men's Freestyle. Blaze remains alive for repechage for a chance to earn a Bronze medal.
Wyatt Hendrickson TO THE SEMIS!!!
He has teched all three of his opponents today and will face reigning World Champion Amir Zare of Iran later today.
Young HWT star Kassimbek of Kazakhstan is upset by Turkey's Buyukcingil 11-1, early in this World Championships.
Kassimbek pushed reigning World Champ Zare earlier this year in a 3-3 match. That has been Zare's closest match since the 2024 Olympics...
Kyle Dake secures the tech fall 13-2! Showing off his impressive par terre scoring capabilites by racking up 5 gut wrenches to put this match away!
Blaze keeps the Team USA train rolling with a PIN over Ormanoglu!
A very controlled match from Marcus, giving up just one scoring exchange. Blaze finds a cradle early in the second to put the match away!
Zain Retherford with one of the calmest, most controlled pins I've ever seen at a World Championships...
He locked up a turk off his shot to secure the takedown and gingerly guided his oppnent to his back for the PIN!
HUGE WIN FOR HENDRICKSON!!!
Wyatt techs Bronze medalist Sharipov 11-0 to open his World Championships. Sharipov had pinned Hendrickson earlier this year.
BIG scare in Kyle Dake's opening match.
With Dake leading 2-1 after the first period, Naadambat puts Kyle to his back right out the gate of the second period for 4 and takes a 5-2 lead.
After 2 hard fought takedowns, Dake secures the 6-5 lead and ADVANCES to the next round!
Bo Bassett is a Senior World finalist at the age of 20...
En route to the finals, he defeated a World Champ, a Bronze Medalist, and outscored his opponents 41-15.
An unfathomable performance, something that most would say shouldn't be possible at one of the toughest weights.
Yikes…
This world championships is a layup for Russia to have 5 champs 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
61 kg UGUEV
65 kg MAMEDOV
74 kg SHIRIEV
79 kg KHANIEV
86 KADIEV
97 kg SADULAEV
After all the years of Russia slander, they have a chance to firmly plant themselves as the best wrestling country in the world over the next couple days.
