Getting Trump supporters to define "Communism" and "Socialism" is literally like pulling teeth. Can't get a single explanation and they all get so emotional about it lol

For most of American history, Republicans and Democrats disagreed on policy, not on the underlying liberal values that defined the country. That’s why the United States never developed a separate “Liberal Party”, both major parties already operated within the same liberal framework. Some of the core Liberal values we shared: - Individual rights for everyone - Equality under the law - Fair treatment by the justice system - A basic expectation of decency toward and from other people - Laws should apply to our leaders as well - Free and fair elections open to all citizens of the country These weren’t “Democratic values” they were American values, rooted in classical liberalism and the US Constitution. What’s changed is that Trump and the MAGA movement reframed “liberal” as a partisan insult tied to Democrats. Instead of treating liberal values as the shared foundation of American democracy, they cast them as the enemy something foreign, weak, or unamerican. By doing that, they have removed themselves from the common civic framework both parties used to operate in. That’s why MAGA Republicans feel so strange and out of place in the American politics. It’s not because they’re more conservative or republican than before. It’s because they’re illiberal, rejecting the values that used to unite both parties as Americans.
