Today, a Japanese coach, Michiteru Mita, broke down in tears in front of journalists and cameramen at a post match press conference. Here’s why (THREAD):

If you wanted to go to extremes, you can truly replicate the "knockout feel" of a PSO by the winning getting the full three points and the loser getting nothing. But maybe just start with the winner getting the one point.

The concept has merit but there has to be something real on the line. It would be better if you lose the PSO you don't get any points. You have to win the PSO to earn the point from drawing. Suddenly, something is on the line and the pressure of a real PSO is replicated

But having watched seven draws now, I don’t believe the PSOs are replicating that at all. Because each team is guaranteed a point, there's nothing really on the line. You don't LOSE anything by losing, and you only gain one point by winning.

My thoughts on the penalty shootout after a draw in the Australian Championship. Initially I was for it: it’s difficult to replicate the pressure of a PSO at training, so any excuse to do it in a competitive match is good practice for Australian football.

Since September 2024, Socceroos have played ten competitive matches with only one loss (USA at the World Cup). Includes a win and draw against Japan, a win and draw against Saudi, plus four points in the World Cup against Türkiye and Paraguay to finish second in the group.

We are actually so good when we have Irankinda, McGree and Bos on the park.
Add in Toure when he's fit.

I hope they let Grozos lift the trophy. Banning red-carded players from being at the trophy presentation is one of the dumb football rules which I hate #AustraliaCup
