Replying to @CardAficionado
@CardAficionado quietly sold the #18 jersey number last night of these (after thinking that these wouldn't sell LOL).
I don't know this buyer. It looks like mostly a comics buyer with a Yoshi interest.
I don't really understand how @opensea shows the data but looks like it sold for around $450.
Honestly, a pretty good deal for the buyer/seller.
In the fall before things went dark in the middle of Yoshi's World Series heroics I bought the 1/30 first mint Yoshi rookie for $450.
I knew the jersey owner wanted a lot more but the 1 owner had just dropped their price from $700 to $450, so I grabb ed it.
Picking this up for the same price seems like a pretty decent deal, especially since the asset has been improved with self-custody.
The jersey owner later circled around and was willing to trade the Yoshi jersey for a non special serial #griffey first mint.
My heart wanted to do it because Yoshi is one of my favorite players (he reminds me of Greg Maddux) but I held off because Griffey is an all time darling blue chip grail.
Congrats to the buyer and seller on this one @CandyDigital

I've spent $10k since @CandyDigital's reopening. Here's what I've bought and why:
- I bought @PujolsFive only existing @MLB licensed 1/1 digital collectible in the world.
I actually didn't like the comps at all on this one. @PaniniAmerica had some @MLBPA licensed 1/1s that were even selling (based on my recollection but someone can check the data) for between $600 and $1,500.
A lot of the stuff I've bought has had 99-98% discounts to @PaniniAmerica AND @NBATopShot values, and that's where I like to be.
This one did not, but, people love and respect @PujolsFive, I was buying it at a pretty big discount, knew others that would buy it for the same price or more, and hey, what the heck it's the only @MLB licensed @PujolsFive in the world.
I nearly passed, but did a big bulk deal from the same person and we tossed it in at the end (seems to be a theme here for me).
- I bought the 50/50 #Griffey and 50/50 #FrankThomas to go with my 1/50 #Griffey and 1/50 #FrankThomas. What 90's kid isn't going to die for that set in 20 years?
- I bought the #shoheiohtani first home run. There's only 5 in the world. Probably a solid buy. People want it.
- I bought #juniorcaminero's first ever 1/1 on @solana. I probably overpaid here, but I wanted to solidify my Junior collection. I've since missed some great pickups of his due to budget reasons including 7 of his first hit /60 that went for $70 each, a total, total steal.
That's probably my favorite digital collectible ever fwiw. I love that his parents are going nuts in the stands. I love that he's wearing #1 in the collectible and that while he's since switched to #13, that will be the ONLY digital, possibly either digital or physical, where he's wearing the #1. TRULY UNIQUE.
- I picked up probably $2-3k additional great #ohtani pieces, including 2 of the 50/50s that were way, way under priced because the people selling them had no history or record of what the last ones sold for on the marketplace prior to shut down.
- I went on a little #murakami spree as I became a fan. I bought 2 of his base rookies for too much and 8 of them for far too little.
- I actually picked up some nice #jameswood stuff. I own his 1/25, 1/50, and I believe 1/90 rookie first mint, as well as his 1/250 and 1/25 from his first ever mint on @solana. King @yaozers3 grabbed his coveted rookie first mint 1/1.
- I picked up and am working on a few things but ya know I can't say everything I'm doing because people watch and jump ahead sometimes! :)
I think that the better question is WHY I keep buying, and that's a question I am asking myself. A few possible reasons:
- Plain old addiction. Let's be honest.
- Complete insanity. Very wrong thesis. It's a possibility for sure. I don't pretend to be right about everything and have no crystal ball, and we've seen modest examples at best of price increases.
What I see in the market is gridlock.
Folks with really good stuff that want to sell 98-99% of the time are selling it for prices that reflect what they think it could be worth when the rails are better. Those that list low / based on the actual liquidity and existing rails have stuff get bought within seconds (the 50/50s for $400 are good examples of that).
Very few buyers on the other hand are willing to come up to closer to what something could be worth when the rails are right.
From the 2026 All Star Set the Ohtani /50s have sold for as low as $22 from a flipper to as high as $65. All under priced. I saw the 17/50 for $300 and ran home to buy it because there is ONLY ONE 17. Otherwise, I would have been in no rush.
So, just not a lot of higher end stuff is moving. Everyone with anything good has made it this far and no matter what their sentiment they don't plan to sell it for super cheap.
- A REAL opportunity. The issues that I've well documented continue to be MAJOR market suppressors.
@tadtweets and @CandyDigital are working on them.
They've also said that they have YET to start marketing. I think an X live on that might be cool which they mentioned last Friday.
From pondering the folks they know and the things they could do and what I think a lot of Tad's natural skills are, I think that people are severely underestimating this part (though I think we're all still severely underestimating the difficulty of getting the secondary marketplaces working well enough so that even a @coultin with his monocole and @chrisschlei with his 18 friends and the many other folks that start to want to buy something but can't figure it out and says, "eh, I'll come back later").
I'll go so far as to say I don't even think @CandyDigital 2.0 really even begins until the marketplace is right and they can actually do real marketing. The wait is hard, but it's real, and this is life.
I think there's probably a 5-10x unlock in getting the marketplace right (honestly probably higher when you consider what Tad might do from a marketing standpoint), and another 5-10x unlock when we can get all brands and sports on the same marketplace.
Imagine if you had to buy your milk in one place, walk a mile to buy your fruit in another, walk a mile to buy your meat in another, walk a mile to buy your veggies in another... you'd probably buy a lot less than you would if it was all in the same spot or so convenient that you could click a button on @amazon.
And this isn't a chocolate bar you randomly pick up at check out and millions more exist. This is a #murakami that you sweep 8 of the floor and there's only /250 in the world and the next person suddenly realizes they need one too but now the price is 4-5x higher. Those sweeps don't have to happen very often for that price impact to be really felt.
I haven't spent A TON since the relaunch, but I didn't want to spend even as much as I have because I already was insanely aggressive before the marketplace shut down.
But in my mind these deals have been too good of deals to pass up if the things continue to come to fruition that I believe will over the coming years.
Without sharing too much (again because you all go buy things LOL), I continue to believe in my blue chip / rookie grail thesis.
I like to buy the BLUE CHIP stuff that will be iconic 30 years from now looking back, and I like to buy the rookies that nobody else has and that have actual real rookie digital mints from the year that they started playing.
I think both of those age well. I also think @CandyDigital is significantly more scarce than anyone else, and when the unlocks above happen we will see some real movement.
I def feel anxious from time to time. My best guess is that Candy has generated a bit over $300k in secondary sales and drops, is probably in $1.5-$2 million in payroll and migration costs. This is wild back of the napkin guessing on my part with a little help from ChatGPT who even pushed back on it's own numbers lol.
My hope is that we can make rapid enough progress for revenue to pick up and move towards profitability. Doesn't take the rails working for many collectors to really accelerate that revenue.
Even when I'm feeling a little anxious though, I remember that we have self custody, that I bought to hold long term, remind myself of my long term thesis ranging from the impact of AI on physical collectibles to status flashing, and that helps a lot.
Pumped for the future and thank you to @tadtweets and @CandyDigital for the hard work here, and a special thank you to @AA_RonCasanova for helping us through the dark ages into better pastures ahead.
