As farm workers across the state continue to be terrorized by an ICE surge, this court order today will strengthen protections for farm workers in the Central District of California, from Ventura to Coachella. Farm workers across the nation deserve the same protections. 1/

We're calling on the FTC to block this merger. As @owenslindsay1 calls out, DoorDash is openly touting plans to combine the companies' AI-powered pricing tools. "Two of the biggest ripoff machines should not be allowed to become one."
Today we’re announcing @DoorDash’s intent to acquire @Instacart. Both DoorDash and Instacart share a mission to help local businesses succeed. Together, we could give grocers and retailers of every size the best of both in one service: DoorDash's delivery network and Instacart’s grocery and fulfillment technology, along with the advertising and AI tools each company has built. Until closing, DoorDash and Instacart will keep operating as separate, independent companies. Find out on how we’re helping Main Street compete and keeping more dollars local: shoplocaltogether.com For important additional information, read more here: ir.doordash.com/news/news-de…

Jeff Bezos owns The Washington Post. In the last 10 months, the Post has published at least 11 anti-labor editorials. Meanwhile, 71% of Americans approve of unions. Y’all see what’s happening here, right?

The Cowboys may struggle to put together a playoff run, but their cheerleaders sure know how to organize a winning team. 😭👏🏿 BIG congratulations to the @DCCheerleaders on their union recognition! Workers organizing and building power? I’ll cheer for that EVERY time. ✊🏿💜

Places like @WaffleHouse built a reputation of being affordable for working families, but that landscape continues to change due to corporate price gouging and pro-corporate policies. It’s no wonder @RaiseUptheSouth Waffle House workers are demanding an end to unfair paycheck deductions and calling for a $25 an hour minimum wage!
We're all paying the price after Republicans increased the cost of living - look no further than an order at Waffle House.

Dolores Huerta fought for a better future for working people. Today, home care workers, janitors, nurses, and so many others—many of them women and immigrants doing the work this country can’t live without—carry her fight forward. We honor her legacy by doing the work: organizing, mobilizing, and making our voices heard. Generations of workers stand stronger because she stood up first ✊
Replying to @DoloresHuerta
@DoloresHuerta never waited for permission to lead. She organized, she negotiated, she gave us ¡Sí, se puede! For most of her life, someone else got the credit, and she kept going anyway. Rest well, Dolores. You did your part. Now it’s our turn.

Dolores Huerta showed us that no matter who we are or where we come from, we have the power to fight back against injustice. We'll continue to follow in your footsteps and fight for the future all workers deserve. Thank you for everything. ✊

This feels like a good time to remind people that @ilsr found that schools are routinely overpaying for supplies they get via Amazon. The site's dynamic pricing means costs for things like markers can fluctuate by 300% in a single day. pymnts.com/news/b2b-payments…

Healthcare should not take HALF your paycheck. Folks like Bob should be able to live a good life. And we deserve leaders who understand that. That’s why we organize. That’s why we vote. ✊🏿💜

Anthropic's S-1 is almost a roadmap for big structural reforms needed to transform the tech industry. Basically lays out how tech business models rely on the government looking the other way on privacy, liability, extreme consolidation, and investor games....

Yup -- for most of us, the potential benefits of AI are always juuuust around the corner. But the harms -- the surveillance, lack of job security, and skyrocketing inequality -- are happening NOW.
personal take: as much as I'm techno optimist, I genuinely dislike it when people on X dunk on regular folk for criticizing AI a company has told everyone they will lose their jobs, many companies did layoffs, people have families. on top of saying all the layoffs are necessary so AI proves econ value until it cures the cancer or saves planet but they did anything but those so far you might be making a ton from AI, many don't. some people also found a ton of purpose from their work which is gone. I'm not saying we should console people but maybe also don't dunk on a frustrated mass? the field is already detested and this is not helping

Even when tech companies promise to "bring their own power," regular people STILL pay the price. Folks living near these generators can suffer long-term health problems from breathing their fumes.
In the rush to build data centers, companies are starting to use their own off grid gas generators. This results in much higher emissions – 60% to 80% – compared with using their local electricity grid and risks locking in longer-term fossil dependence.
