1/ If you're the parent of a SEND child/young person, you'll know how invaluable free independent information/advice/support can be. So here's a list of where to find some. Feel free to add!

Isolation for minor issues - lost pens, wrong socks, untucked shirts, looking out the window - should be banned. If a kid tells the teacher to f off or punches someone, fine. But kids shouldn't miss class for things that largely boil down to 'being a child'.
Some children are losing weeks of education because of school punishments. An Ofsted inspection raised concerns about pupils at an English school missing nearly half a term of classroom learning through suspensions and time spent in isolation rooms, sometimes over minor rule-breaking. Schools absolutely need discipline. Teachers shouldn't have to put up with constant disruption, and children who want to learn deserve a proper education. But if a child is repeatedly being taken out of lessons as punishment, at what point are we doing more harm than good? Discipline matters, but so does making sure children actually get an education.

Just a reminder that there is a big difference between anxiety and an anxiety disorder. Take the case of Errol Graham. His anxiety disorder meant he couldn't leave his flat. Even when his benefits were stopped, he couldn't leave. He starved to death. @andyburnham @patmcfaddenmp
We need an honest debate about welfare, not one built on myths and misinformation. The repeated claim that people receive PIP for mild anxiety simply isn't true. PIP is assessed on someone's ability to carry out everyday tasks, not on their condition or diagnosis.

This is shocking! Almost half of families with disabled children have run out of food in the past 12 months as well as 34% of families without disabled children. #Povertyisnotneglect. Take away our poverty NOT our children. metro.co.uk/2026/10/21/half-…

How does one access 'access to work', to actually be able to work, if 'access to work' takes months to assess your application?

7/ Bowing out now, and I'll wait to see whether said person responds to my email or whether I've just ensured this thread means I'll be ignored forevermore 😅

6/ and ironically, we don't need to name and shame anyone. SCC are perfectly capable of shaming themselves. It's about the only thing they seem capable of doing well.

5/ I've just emailed the person who said this to make the above points (and have a moan about the various ways SCC is continuing to fail us). I guess if someone at SCC is monitoring our social media they'll soon know about this thread....

4/ Parents/carers are terrified of their children killing themselves because of the above, or being left with nobody to care for them once we've gone. No one will advocate for our children the way we do. But you know, tomaytoes, tomatoes. 🤷‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

3/ These adults are scared of being 'named and shamed'. Our children are terrified of being written off, not getting the education and other support they desperately need, becoming NEET and frankly having their entire lives fucked up.

2/ How would they know if this was happening? Are they monitoring parents' social media accounts? Are they just stalking our personal accounts, or actually joining private groups to access posts too? Does SCC endorse or encourage this behaviour?

1/ @suffolkcc claim SEND staff are scared of being named and shamed on social media. Which brings some questions...

Handing out railcards with a 1/3 off for those aged 18-30, 60+, travelling in a pair, travelling as a family, ex forces is mad. Said no one ever. Seems a bit discriminatory to pick on the disabled railcard offering the same discount...or maybe just shows how thick people are.
Handing out disabled rail cards and 30% discounts to people with mild mental health conditions is mad. And to force doctors and health proesssionals into a gatekeeping role is worse still. At a time when the Government should be reducing the welfare bill they are expanding benefit entitlements even further. The Labour Party is the Welfare Party. thesun.co.uk/news/40856734/a…
