$COST monthly sales report remains one of my favorite catalysts to trade.
first entry yesterday paid at the open.
second entry today, trading the reaction to the report paid again.
> same catalyst
> two separate opportunities
the key is being prepared and letting price give you the entry.
not every trading opportunity starts at 9:30.
> investor days
> product announcements
> and company presentations
can create volatility throughout the session.
if a company has an event scheduled for noon
I want to know about it beforehand.
Then we watch how price reacts.
preparation gives you the opportunity to be early without guessing.
This week's catalysts!
Here’s what to keep on watch (November 2-6):
Monday:
- $AAPL, $PLTR, $ROKU, $VRTX earnings
Tuesday:
- $AMD, $SHOP, $SMCI, $ANET, $BKNG, $ALAB earnings
- Midterm elections + JOLTS
Wednesday:
- $UBER, $QCOM, $ARM, $DDOG, $APP, $MELI earnings
- $COST monthly sales report
Thursday:
- $NET, $ABNB, $IONQ, $DKNG, $U, $CELH earnings
Friday:
- $MRNA, $OKLO, $VST earnings
- October Jobs Report (8:30 AM ET)
Plenty of potential movers this week.
you don’t need to trade every stock on your watchlist.
i can have 4 tickers charted and only end up trading 1-2 of them.
the purpose of the watchlist is to identify opportunities, not force yourself into every single one
one clean trade is enough for the entire session.
$COIN earnings reaction played out exactly as planned today.
Down 7% premarket after earnings, trading below VWAP with FTFC to the downside and a clear pattern of lower highs and lower lows.
The plan was to look for puts below the premarket low.
Price broke that level and went on to take out both the previous year low and previous quarter low.
Caught the downside move on $NOW following its earnings reaction today.
on the quarterly, monthly and weekly time frame
the overall market structure was bearish, and price was already gapping down during premarket.
the plan was to watch for a break below the premarket low for a potential entry to the downside.
we also had a 15m inside bar that triggered lower,
giving us another potential entry lower.
price eventually followed through and took out our levels on the way down.
$TSLA stayed on watch today following yesterday’s overweight rating.
an overweight rating means the firm expects the stock to outperform its peers in the same sector.
ratings like this can bring additional buying interest and keep momentum going, which is why I like keeping them on watch.
But we still needed price to confirm.
Today, we cleared the PDH and continued hitting higher highs
pushing through our upside levels and working toward the gap fill at $407.68.
one of the biggest improvements i’ve made in my trading was changing where i start.
instead of looking for setups first, i look for catalysts.
earnings, economic data, upgrades, downgrades, company announcements
anything that could bring meaningful volatility.
once i have those names on watch, i let The Strat do the rest.
i still need a setup, i still need confirmation, and i still need my risk defined.
the news alone isn’t enough to make me take a trade.
$CMCSA earnings reaction came through
Stratalyst flagged it as a strong post-earnings mover with a history of clean price action so this was our high alert.
we had our levels mapped out, waited for the upside trigger
and took the move higher as price worked through our targets.
catalysts first
then let price action confirm.
