The Toronto mayor's race got most of the attention, but pay close attention to Mississauga, its largest suburb. In an upset win, they are getting the magic combo of
- More housing and transit
- More police spending
- More family services
- Fiscal responsibility
This is what resonates with the primarily 1st and 2nd gen immigrants who live in the Toronto suburbs; public safety, affordable communities, better education and family-based services, fiscal probity.
This viewpoint is almost completely absent in the pundit class that dominates mainstream media, and why Alvin's Mamdani-esque win came as a complete surprise to them.
