8. When demand for high-cost homes is not met by new supply it is primarily low-income households that lose out... 9. ...new social housing provides the most immediate and direct benefits for low-income households.

Mamdani: Whenever I talk about raising taxes on the wealthiest, people will respond with what is generally a myth of capital flight. But the flight that has actually happened: 200,000 Black New Yorkers have left this city in the last few decades. There are so many people who will still tell you they’re New Yorkers, but now they live in South Carolina, they live in other parts of the country because they couldn’t afford to live in this city. And you can feel that in neighborhoods across this city, you can feel that in classrooms across the city. And so for me, it’s always ask yourself: How has this city left people behind, and how can we actually start to show up?

People really don't like when you tell them their favorite word doesn't really mean much any more, that it's used as a cudgel to stop meaning discussion and remove the possibility of positive change in peoples' minds.

Peekskill got New Rochelle's old city manager and planner. It really looks like as soon as they left, things started to get better...

San Diego fell from 5th to 12th most expensive rental market by building more multifamily housing per capita than any other California city. This is what happens when you actually build. The lesson isn't complicated.

YIMBYism has existed for long enough that we're now seeing success stories from cities that adopted pro-housing policy. After legalizing middle housing, Portland is seeing new construction (2024-now) townhomes & 2-6-plex units selling for $300-$400k. The starter home is back!

Illinois is more progressive on housing than New York. Wild.
Rent is too damn high, Illinois. We've got a plan for that — the BUILD plan is designed to lower housing costs and increase housing supply.

Someone who I understand doesn't know what they're talking about recently said something like my "politics were well known locally and widely hated...yet likely doesn't know that my "politics" are mostly aligned with Zohran.

... And I say mostly because there are things that simply haven't happened/ needed his leadership yet from which I would have an opinion.

What's the best way to launder (drug) money? *Real estate and restaurants. What the best way to make sure there's little to no competition with you and your friend's real estate and restaurants? *Take over the local party and run for office.

...encouraging nebulous, problematic ownership of a place And b) having a small group of socially capable, locally powerful people to incessantly create distrust and resentmentas between different communities within the community (whether they know they're doing it or not)

Rinse and repeat then eventually cash out and leave. What's left? What we have now. Hate me all you want, folks. I ain't rich or important enough to have affected any of this. Keep protecting your little dirt pile with your all while it slowly disappears under your feet.
