SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026) Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire. His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen. Ian McKellen 29 October 2026 Photo: University of Huddersfield

When I was writing Unreal Engine 1, my time was divided as follows: - Around 30% went to seriously deep coding on hard problems: assembly language texture mappers, C++ BSP trees, data persistence, object oriented systems design, and networking. - Around 70% was just typing and refactoring large bodies of code needed for a complete engine feature set. This was not hard, and while I was doing it my mind was mostly on the deeper coding topics, thinking and planning for what's next. It didn't feel much different from vibe coding today, except that it was just me typing code on an IBM Model M keyboard rather than prompting it and reviewing the results. So, it has always seemed perfectly logical that we would rely on AI for that 70%, once the AI could do it with a similar quality standard as we could, which has never been perfection. It came as no surprise that, after a few years of AI model evolution, it was able to take the reigns on that 70% and free up programmers' time for more valuable tasks. What's more of a surprise is the emergence of AI as a sort of insta-Carmack able to solve hard technical problems quite cleverly and often cleanly, and that it's able to reason about and work in complex 3D scenes both by operating the tools and by directly understanding the raw data files. I abandoned assembly language in 1998 when out-of-order CPUs made much simpler C/C++ code faster, and never I missed it. If prompting through architectural documents, concept art, and design plans can transcend typing code and tweaking vertices, that will enable developers to spend their time on higher-level, higher value technical and creative tasks. What matters is the end product, whether it's a game or an engine. Anything developers can do to try out more ideas and make better software and games faster is a win for everyone.

What if you could just donate 'tokens' for improving the driver-support for the machine you are using? If you weren't technical you just donate an amount and can follow along to things getting done and better+

I'm still trying to fix up the linux driver support for things on my 2015 Macbook Pro running Omarchy. Its amazing that with AI support I'm helping fixing gpu-driver errors, audio and power-errors. Some of it to Omarchy but a lot to linux in general.

I see people say “agents write unsafe code” Of course agents can produce unsafe code. But you can’t blame agents. You are the one writing unsafe code. Just using agents.

Computer use on Omarchy is going to be magic with Cua! 🤘
1/ Today we're announcing the stable Cua Driver release for Omarchy - a new foundation for computer use, built into the OS from the ground up. Over the last month, we worked directly with @dhh, @SpencerGBull and @vaxryy to bring a native synthetic cursor to Omarchy's Hyprland compositor, enabling true multi-cursor computer use at the OS level. Cua Driver is open source and available at github.com/trycua/cua

I'll be at the Omarchy Copenhagen Meetup 001 on Monday! It's already completely full with 150 people, but there's a waiting list if you fancy your chances. Excited to see so many Danes being part of this new computing paradigm as pioneers 🇩🇰 luma.com/j6wrz0ww?tk=JW4FIv

So freaking cool! We're running Omarchy ads in the center of Copenhagen on Rådhuspladsen this week. Design by @Dennis_Rye and funded by @sonderby 👏 There's even a billboard generator available if you want to do this in your city: github.com/llstrk/omarchy-bi…
Omarchy week has started in Copenhagen! Thank you @sonderby for collaborating and helping fund this. And thank you @dhh for letting Peter and I do something crazy. @OmarchyLinux

Omarchy Copenhagen 001 update 🇩🇰 On Sept 28 we’re skipping the usual speaker-heavy meetup format and going for something more interactive: community-run Omarchy demo booths. Think less conference, more old-school demo scene. And now we need you 👇 luma.com/j6wrz0ww

Using LLMs for code is getting crazy. All the drudgery can be fast-tracked with an LLM, leaving you with so much more time for design decisions. But boy, do you still need to know what you're doing — and where you're going.

I'm diagnosing a slow restore from suspend on this old mac. And claude keeps asking me if i'm just bad at counting seconds or using a stopwatch... "#¤# off claude and help med fix this, instead of asking me if i cant count to 10!!

My son and i are doing a Roblox shooter game together. Is 12 years too early to have a claude subscription? or at least sharing it with dad.

This age of AI is crazy. Im on Omarchy on a potato 2015 Macbook Pro, where the linux drivers only support dedicated GPU and not integrated, resulting in bad battery-life on this old thing. But claude and I am close to a working linux driver patch now..

The Evergreen theme on Omarchy by @iamdothash is so relaxing. I loove this background. github.com/bjarneo/omarchy-e… Shouldn't we add it to omarchy.org/themes/ @iamdothash ?
