If striking hasn't worked so far (years of strikes, but the issues haven't changed), is more striking the best move? Just wondering if there are alternatives to doubling down on the same strategy... #UCUstrike

24 universities collectively amassed a £2.2bn surplus in 2020-21 Yet they claim they can only afford to offer staff a 1.5% pay rise and have to cut pensions We're striking because universities have the money to treat staff properly, but they choose not to #OneOfUsAllOfUs

We’re barking mad about pay gaps, casualisation, unmanageable workloads, real-terms pay cuts and pension theft on the @DucuUo picket line this morning. @UCUScotland @ucu_solidarity #DogsOnPicketLines #UcuStrike #FourFights #OneOfUsAllOfUs

The cake of solidarity- when in Dundee. It was by all accounts glorious! Thanks to @AndyrewScotland for baking. Big shout to the person who delivered cakes- not sure who you were but they were great. @UCUSPresident @ucu_solidarity
Today's comic is about WAGES... Our wages have seen real life decreases of 20% over the past 10 years. Meanwhile our VC's pay has seen a 20.6% INCREASE since 2015...

“Things can’t go on like this. Not for staff or students. We all deserve better from a sector that can afford better. That’s why our picket lines are the frontline of the fight for higher education’s future.” Read @DrJoGrady in @TheTimes👇 thetimes.co.uk/article/4f4ca…

#WhyWeAreStriking: The FACTS. 🧵 67% of researchers are employed on casualised fixed term contracts.

This vice chancellor didn't know how many staff he employed on insecure contracts at @oxford_brookes... Well we've done some digging for him: 75% of teaching-only staff and 30% of all academic staff are on HOURLY PAID CONTRACTS. What a disgrace. #OneOfUsAllOfUs #UCUstrikes
‼️“I mean you're a vice chancellor" Listen to this BBC interviewer’s shock as university bosses defend zero hours contracts Hey @UniversitiesUK can you confirm you think ZERO HOURS & other insecure contracts are good for staff & students? #OneOfUSAllOfUs

According to politicians no one should ever strike because it's annoying

I agree with this point at least. Universities (and MPs) need to fix the problems so students can have good and sustainable learning environments. Instead of the collapse of the HE sector that is currently taking place. #UCUstrike
Replying to @michelledonelan
Universities have a responsibility to minimise disruption to students from industrial action, and I’d encourage any students concerned about the impact on their education to get in touch with their provider.
Solidarity with @ucu members on strike yet again across the UK this week. Real pay has dropped 20%, significant portions of the sector are on precarious contracts, pensions are being cut by 35% & workloads are unmanageable. Our working conditions are students’ learning conditions
