JD Vance is attacking Abdul El-Sayed, an American born in Michigan to Egyptian immigrant parents, by suggesting he has no attachment to his own country and describing him as a “cancer.”
This is racism—and a damning indictment of Vance’s character. A man confident in his ideas argues them on their merits. A man lacking the courage to do that questions his opponent’s loyalty, exploits his heritage, and dehumanizes him to score political points.
Vance holds the office of vice president. Instead of using that position to unite Americans around shared democratic principles, he is encouraging suspicion of a fellow American because of his background. It’s disgraceful.
