For someone who named their daughter Thatcher (middle name) this really was quite the exchange over whether the state should intervene over Poundland’s collapse…

Very uplifting Festival of Remembrance with the band of the Sussex Yeomanry this afternoon. A mini Royal Albert Hall celebration. Well done to Forest Row Royal British Legion branch and Holy Trinity Church and Rev Jamie for another successful and packed event

One of the most spectacular flights I have ever taken and if you come from Kathmandu you get to fly parallel to Mount Everest too for some breathtaking scenery. Remember to sit on the left hand side of the plane

I agree with every word of this.
Slavery was an evil in which people from every continent and region participated. We should be honest about the whole history, not select the parts that are politically convenient today, especially given Britain's leading role in ending the transatlantic slave trade. If Caribbean countries are asking Britain for a formal apology for Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, will they also be asking the same of the descendants of African kingdoms, rulers and merchants who captured, sold and profited from the trade? On demands for reparations, whether through cash or debt relief, we have been down this track before. Twenty-five years ago, Jubilee 2000, Drop the Debt and Make Poverty History argued that cancelling the debts of poorer countries would give them a fresh start. More than $100 billion of debt was eventually written off, but many of those countries have since built up even bigger debts. Labour are already spending too much on Britain's welfare state, now is not the time for Andy Burnham to be providing global welfare. There is no reason British taxpayers today should be held financially responsible for things that happened generations before any of us were born. And I have even less patience for political elites in commonwealth countries who don’t know how to make their own citizens prosperous now looking for another opportunity to blame Britain. As Prime Minister, Andy Burnham should be Britain’s greatest defender. Instead, he is writing articles saying we need to confront our history (as if we haven't done enough of that) and considering another formal historical apology. Tony Blair already expressed Britain’s deep sorrow and regret for our role in the slave trade nearly twenty years ago. There is no need to do so again. This is all another navel-gazing distraction. The Commonwealth should be looking forward, not endlessly backwards. That means economic partnerships to make us all richer and deeper military and security cooperation against common threats. If every Commonwealth summit becomes an exercise in presenting Britain with demands for cash then we need to start asking if it is worth the effort.

Kemi is the decent face of politics in Britain today!
Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has told Good Morning Britain that ‘racist attacks’ on her are ‘not going to work’, after a former aide to Nigel Farage called her a ‘Nigerian scammer’. Former UKIP adviser Raheem Kassam posted a series of tweets attacking Mrs Badenoch at the weekend. When Reform UK’s Robert Jenrick was asked about the attacks by Ranvir and Paul, he said it wasn't his place to police what people write online. #politics #conservatives #reformuk

It is never really a problem but blame Churchill. When the Chamber was rebuilt after being hit in the Blitz he insisted it should retain the adversarial layout and always look as full as possible by not having enough seats for every member
Replying to @timloughton
I doubt anyone bar his cult followers believe Farage, but isn't it ridiculous in a supposedly modern democracy that there are insufficient seats for all our MPs?

The only data it has is the date stamp to which MP adds name. If a card doesn't have a date you take another card. None of this is rocket science-if Farage had bothered turning up more in last 2 yrs he would know the simplest procedures without having to lie to cover his absence
Replying to @timloughton
Presume it also needs to have correct date on it too….. Not that that matters. Farage’s lie has gone round the world 3 times before the truth catches up with him. But of course his supporters won’t bother with the actual facts of the matter

And you can continue saying it time and time again and it will still make you sound even more nuts. Bobby J was well out of his depth in all his ministerial positions it just that the Reform pond is much shallower and murkier
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again Tories are secretly kicking themselves that they got Kemi instead of Rob.

That's rubbish-prayer cards all pre-stamped & available in the Chamber for members to pick up, sign and put in intended seat. Just before session starts doorkeepers remove all cards placing to seat in front. Member attending prayers then replaces card in slot reserving it for day
NEW @Telegraph understands Nigel Farage did not display a valid date stamp on his prayer card and it was removed as per Chamber protocol. I also understand Mr Farage did not attend prayers and did not approach Commons staff regarding a seat reservation. telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

If you reserve a seat by putting a prayer card in your intended space you have to turn up for prayers at the start of the morning session. If you don't your prayers card is removed by the doorkeepers and you are no longer entitled to that seat. I presume that is what happened.
🚨 WATCH: Nigel Farage says he didn't attend the Budget in Parliament to "avoid a physical altercation" "Given my prayer card [to reserve a seat] was removed, I was heading towards another physical altercation... being a quiet, shy and modest person, I decided against it"

Labour has done nothing in the budget to help with SEND. The £2bn black hole forecast in March remains unaddressed. Special schools are being axed, pressure on mainstream schools is mounting, & schools are sounding the alarm that SEND staff jobs are on the line.

These are just the actual transfers. Many more qualified for transfer out of the UK but were declined by the EU despite Dublin. In the last year before Brexit where Dublin still fully applied the UK applied to transfer 8500 to the EU. Only 105 were actually accepted
Anyone STILL citing the failed Dublin Agreement as the reason for small boats is fundamentally dishonest. Was trying to think of an “or” to add to that sentence but there isn’t one.

First Danny Kruger, now Robert Jenrick. Why do these gutless turncoats find it so hard to answer whether calling Kemi Badenoch a “Nigerian scammer” is racist? If Raheem Kassam is just “a journalist”, and not a key part of Nigel’s inner circle, why are they protecting him?
‘Is calling Kemi Badenoch a “Nigerian scammer” racist, yes or no?’ ‘…I’m not on your show to talk about what a journalist has tweeted.’ Reform's Robert Jenrick refuses to engage with @Lewis_Goodall's question about Raheem Kassam's comments on the Tory leader.

Surely the obvious repost from a reporter when Trump asks 'who are you with?' before the obligatory media insult should be 'who are you with Mr President?'
YIKES 😳 Trump snaps at a reporter asking him about why he's dismissing sexual abuse allegations 👇 WOMAN REPORTER: Do the sexual abuse allegations mean nothing to you, sir? TRUMP: Wait. Wait! Wait wait wait. Slow down. Who are you with? REPORTER: NBC, sir. But they are very serious sexual abuse allegations TRUMP: Quiet! Isn't she a fresh person? You're a horrible little reporter, aren't you?

The Russians tortured 500 people in Bucha. The Russians tortured children in Bucha. The Russians tortured dogs in Bucha. The Russians killed animals in Bucha. In Bucha, the Russians used military vehicles to hunt people—turning it into a game. People ran, the Russians fired, they hunted them down, playing games. And this didn’t just happen in Bucha. Trump and his mafia gang call this "humanitarian." What do you call it?
Bucha. It was a genocide, recognized by everyone. They buried hundreds of people. They tortured people. We found the grave. There were, I believe, around 500 people. When we liberated those towns near Kyiv, there emerged this, you know, this kind of hatred for the Russians, right at that moment. Not even at the moment when they started the full-scale war. Back then nobody understood what it really was yet. People understood what this war was and what Putin did personally when we found those mass graves of tortured adults, children. I mean they didn't just kill them, they tortured and killed them. When we liberated Bucha, I said, bring every journalist here. Don't touch anything, just bring the journalists. The whole world simply has to see this. Imagine finding a mass grave in the U.S. or in Britain, God forbid, with 500 tortured people, adults, kids, dogs, animals shot dead. I mean, they held hunting sprees there from military vehicles. People were running, they were shooting, just hunting, playing games. They literally just played with people, like slavery. So how, after this, can you listen to Putin? And how, after this, can you forgive? From The Diary of a CEO podcast with Steven Bartlett. (2/3)
