🚨 Our analysis of the 2026–27 WSL opening round attendance is out.
Despite the WSL expanding from 12 to 14 clubs, this season’s total remains below 2023–24, 2024–25 and 2025–26. Compared with last season, the total fell by 32.4% and the average by 42.1%. The average is the second-lowest of the five seasons studied, above only 2022–23.
The median delivers an even clearer finding. At 2,686, it is the lowest in the five-season comparison and 31.2% below last season’s 3,904.
The WSL has grown wider—but its typical opening-round crowd has become smaller.

Caitlin & Gaby just a bit busy in the final third for Brighton Women v Charlton Women at the weekend....
Lucy Bronze completed 23 passes into the final third against West Ham—the most by any player in WSL Matchweek 5.
Six more than Anna Patten and Leah Williamson, with Lotte Wubben-Moy next on 16.
Bronze was comfortably clear of the field as Chelsea controlled territory in their 3–0 victory.
