This is just not true. Ares could be fiercely protective - but in doing so reacts with lethal force/violence. His whole thing is being destructive, associated with bloodshed, violence and battle frenzy. And him feeling his pride wounded and lashing out is VERY in character.
I've said this many times. But the issue is pandering. Nobody likes pandering OR being pandered **to**. The group doesn't matter.
Anachronisms feel that way. Dressing things in therapy or twitter/discord group user speak will nearly always feel inauthentic.
People have pointed out that this content in bg3 is more of a choice, but I wouldn’t discount that part of what put people off of veilguard is the use of identity terminology that felt foreign to the world. Like you can make your character trans or gay or anything in bg3, but nobody ever addresses this, so the player can interpret the “meaning” however they want. How would such a character be understood in the universe of the game? The player decides. Bg3 doesn’t take a position on whether any 21st century real world identity concepts are applicable
Which is very distinct from Dorian or Krem in Inquisition. They also drew some hate, but HOLY did they feel far better because they really fit in the moment, and their story/identity was important and added layers to the context surrounding them in a way Taash's just didn't.
If this actually happened AT SCALE ever, you'd see a crackdown on the level of random high school kids ending up settling out of court for thousands with record companies because of napster.
Nobody is as anonymous as they think, and copyright doesn't just disappear regardless.
Something I truly think is important when making any long-term game that you have a lot of control over the feel of is making sure you legitimately play it in some capacity.
Love seeing when people do exactly that and enjoy it. Because it's so easy to be critical of yourself.🙂
Long potentially sappy yap incoming.
You know, having worked on this game for last few years I have done a lot of playtesting my own content, internal alpha testing, team playtests, etc. I've probably "played" multiple thousand of hours of WoW: Forever at this point.
Since beta launched, I'd been playing it as much as I could, but it was sporadic. I managed to reach 20 on two characters doing that, so it was not an insignificant amount of playtime. However, I often times interrupt myself to go send a slack msg, or fix a bug when I notice things while playing, and it usually turns into work in one way or another after a few hours.
But yesterday, I just... played the game for a whole day in the beta. I'm talking 9 or 10 hours. Slack closed, off VPN. I just played.
And it was a full day:
- I got 4/5 pieces of the Fang set on my druid
- Crafted a sweet leather helm for her
- Finished leveling my forsaken pally to 20
- Finished up the last of my dungeon quests my warrior
- I met a hilarious and very irreverent paladin tank who I ran Wailing Caverns 3 times in a row with to try and get him the cape from Verdan, and me the fang boots from Serpentis (Neither of us got what we wanted)
- Did 2 dungeons with some guild members I haven't really spoken to or grouped with in 3 years or so
It was a transformative experience for me. I think yesterday was when it is really starting to actually feel real. It wasn't Blizzcon and how crazy that was, the reception to beta, the podcast, or anything like that. It was just "no lifing" the game for 10 hours and wanting more at the end. Honestly, I got a little emotional.
It hit me that the team really did it. I mean they DID IT. Yeah there's improvements and fixes to be made still, and there's feedback to act on (and stay tuned, we've got updates coming soon on some big feedback items). But all of that stuff aside, this is going to be a legendary launch, and the Forever team completely blew even my expectations out of the water.
I look at each loving detail or small secret, knowing who exactly put that there and thinking how we couldn't have done this without that person. Then I think of the brilliant things that person added that haven't been found or aren't available yet, and I get almost giddy with excitement for them.
I said a week or so ago that I thought we had something special here, and we do. I just can't believe the dumb luck that I get to be a part of this moment with such a once-in-a-lifetime team. It's wild.
Anyway, rambly sunday morning post. Have fun and be good to each other!
NGL, Being on Twitter is becoming more and more unattractive as a dev every day seeing what happens in other communities.
I like being around and posting memes but MAN when one mistake can turn into real life harassment of friends and family it definitely doesn't feel worth it.
The people upset at this and posting their character names that got renamed saying it's woke now is funny because every one is a name that would have gotten a forced rename in Vanilla/TBC too if it was reported enough. I know because I was 13 and naming myself those things.
Reminder to keep your character names in the Forever Beta respectful and within policy. Forced name changes are going into effect and users with the most extreme violations have been removed from the Beta.

Honestly hats off to the WoW Forever team, because I would completely unironically take this debate and how widespread it is as a sign they've successfully hit the correct balance of old + new.
Granted I'm sure other issues exist in tuning, but this is a GREAT sign IMO.
Saw the RE film. Had a lot of fun with it. Definitely feels like RE and was really entertaining.
Main thing that will irk some people is that the main character feels more like he was supposed to be a new player thrust into the RE world rather than a character in it.
Reading opinions about the RE movie is making me increasingly convinced a lot of online people do not play those games and just know it by some gameplay footage/screenshots.
Because saying Campy horror is not RE is incredibly wild when you look at the whole of the series.
