A magical duo â¤ď¸
SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we werenât in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. âBut Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to riskâgetting lost in Hollywood for years and years?â. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in Londonâs West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen knew each other for nearly 50 years before becoming close friends on the set of X-Men.
Around that time, Sir Patrick passed on the role of Gandalf, which his good friend would go on to make his own. In a later interview he stated âMy dear friend Ian McKellen became a living legend with his performance as Gandalf in The Lord Of The Rings.â
The two will appear together one final time in Avengers: Doomsday. â¤ď¸
Sam Heughan has fueled speculation that he could join The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
Speaking at the Wigtown Book Festival, the Outlander actor remained tight-lipped about the franchise but teased, âI may have been in New Zealand recently,â with a grin.
With the upcoming film produced in New Zealand, his comments have given weight to a possible role, although nothing has been officially confirmed.

Dune 3 could win every single Oscar on the night and it still would not touch the greatness of the LOTR trilogy
Telling audiences you can ignore the first two seasons of your show is just insane. Really seems like this season is trying to pivot shift away from season 1 and 2 and start fresh, Iâm surprised they didnât considering renaming it, or removing the âseason 3â from the title.
One year ago today, Elijah Wood surprised a couple on their wedding day at Hobbiton. Getting married in the Shire and having Frodo turn up is going to be hard to top.
An extremely wholesome moment between John Astin, best known for playing Gomez Addams, and his son Sean Astin!
