Gillian Flynn learned everything she knows about screenwriting from working with David Fincher on adapting Gone Girl to the big screen:
"Some directors come in and it's like, it's because something's gonna be a hit or they can, cast a big name. Whereas he came in really knowing and liking the book."
"I made the script exactly a 120 pages. In Hollywood, if you go any longer, they're gonna think that you're this darling novelist who can't kill her babies."
"And the first thing, David was like, let's put more of the book back in here."
"He works harder than anyone I know. He doesn't phone anything in. Even down to an insert shot."
"He's always willing to go back and see, like, is there more to be gotten out of this?"
No one talks like this in America. Not anymore anyway.
Slavoj Žižek is getting better and better as a public intellectual. This should scare us. Here's why.
Žižek's old problem is that he critiques aimless consumerism while himself being a stupendous consumerist product. In the past, his radicalism has too often been vacuous.
Pulling himself out of a swamp by his own hair, Žižek's commentary has become more incisive. But this is not the main reason he is getting better.
As a civilisation that's stuck, in Gramsci's words, between an old world that's dying and a new world that can't be born, we are inarticulate about our own predicament. We find it scary to talk about the causes of the crisis of trust and alienation from politics we see all around us.
Unfortunately, our public intellectuals are in the same predicament. Many liberal intellectuals have become entrepreneurs for normalisation - they're inarticulate about how Reagan, Clinton, and Obama inadvertently helped cause Trump. Many left intellectuals have become entrepreneurs for narrow identity politics. Many right intellectuals have become entrepreneurs for authoritarian politics.
Meanwhile, Žižek has joined a small minority of public intellectuals who can still acknowledge basic truths about our predicament.
In a BBC Newsnight interview this month, Žižek argued that -
(1) Trump is a symptom, not the underlying problem.
(2) The left has abandoned its commitment to a universal political vision.
(3) The breakdown of democracy and the global order is not temporary.
(4) Trump and Putin together represent a new political-economic ideology.
(5) We lack the capacity for collective action to address three great challenges: environmental catastrophe, global war, and artificial intelligence.
(6) We are needlessly making a bad situation worse by failing to act boldly and snap out of denial.
These thoughts are not extraordinary. They are routine. It is genuinely shocking that Žižek can sound radical by naming realities any educated adult should be able to recognise. Žižek's growing usefulness is a disturbing feature of our times. Above all, it reminds us that a central difficulty of our historical predicament is that it has caused us to be unable to talk about it.

👁️ What if reality contains entire layers of intelligence that most of us simply cannot see?
I recently joined guest host Jimmy Church on Gaia’s Beyond Belief to discuss Upsight Vision—the ability to perceive holographic reality beyond our ordinary senses.
In this episode, I share my journey into the Hidden Biosphere and Organic Metaverse, including encounters with ETs, trickster beings, and sacred geometry.
Could this expanded perception be humanity’s next evolutionary leap?

There is a specific frequency of sound that, when pressed against the soft skin behind the jawline, convinces the body the war is over. By angling a transducer toward the gap between the earlobe and the sternocleidomastoid, we are essentially humming a mechanical secret into the cervical vagus. This is the inflammatory reflex in action—a physical handshake between a sound wave and the spleen that quietens systemic inflammation from the neck down.
When this five-minute ritual happens in the evening, it changes the architecture of the night. The ultrasound doesn't just lower the heart rate; it prepares the skull for the glymphatic tide. During slow-wave and REM cycles, the brain’s drainage channels open wide, flushing the day's metabolic debris in a way that feels less like rest and more like a systemic reset.
The result is a strange, alert stillness. It is a morning clarity that lacks the jagged edge of caffeine, a state where the sympathetic nervous system yields its grip to a sustained parasympathetic dominance. You aren't just calm; you are physiologically reorganized.
Whether using the US-1000 or the higher-output US-2000 Pro, precision matters more than power. A mirror check ensures the beam misses the vocal cords while the gel acts as the bridge between the device and the nerve. As the warmth builds, the body shifts its baseline, moving from a state of high-alert friction to a fluid, systemic harmony that reaches all the way to the gut.

Does believing a thing make it so?
I have spent a good deal of my career as a writer—and my decades as a seeker—interrogating that question.
I have written extensively on the power of intent—both practically and historically—and I almost always offer the caveat: we experience multiple laws and forces.
Hence, I eschew a “super law” approach to the metaphysics of thought and emotion. I can ably support that point of view. But here—I suspend my support.
Here, I bow to the ever-ready possibility that there exist no absolute limits. As a critical seeker, I must contend with that prospect. Doing otherwise means settling into certainty, which destroys the intellectual-ethical-spiritual search.
I wrote that we experience a complexity of laws and forces. I used to write, “we live under . . .” Years ago, I changed that wording. Because I bow to the prospect that perspective is ultimate, even if that clarity occurs unevenly and fitfully in the seeker’s experience. It occurs.
Geologist Robert M. Schoch, a friend and author from my publishing days, has an expression: “Something only has to be a little bit true to change everything.”
We routinely yet unconsciously abide contradictions in natural laws. We witness laws in the particle realm that violate those of our macro world. Special relativity dictates the ultimacy of light speed; yet quantum entanglement—whatever it may be that unites separated objects in joint immediacy (Einstein’s “spooky action at a distance”)—appears to defy light speed. The superficially controversial—but methodologically sound—laws of psychical phenomena or ESP, which I enumerate at the end of this article, violate conventional mechanics.
Our scientific-rational worldview is untenable without inconsistency—or paradox. Why should mind metaphysics differ?

Also, many are actually abducted.
I also highly recommend Susan Clancy's 2007 book Abducted, based on her Ph.D. dissertation under renowned memory expert Rich McNally.
"abductees are sane and intelligent people who have unwittingly created vivid false memories from a toxic mix of nightmares, culturally available texts (abduction reports began only after stories of extraterrestrials appeared in films and on TV), and a powerful drive for meaning that science is unable to satisfy. For them, otherworldly terror can become a transforming, even inspiring experience. Being abducted may be a baptism in the new religion of this millennium."

Yesterday we were honored to have the opportunity to host a DMTX ceremony for Sean Clayton! He went in deep. Frequencies were tuned, and he was able to surrender and trust as he journeyed deep within the space. Entities that declined to take recognizable form, surrounded him and shared conversation and knowledge. The session was filled with laughter, revelation, and joy. The energy in the room was playful and light as he explored purpose and impermanence along with unity and connection.

I have found a spiritual-ethical formula for attainment.
I guarantee its efficacy based on:
1. arduous personal experience,
2. study of metaphysical principles that prove distillable, and
3. practicality of application.
My four-part formula rests on the premise that no existence—mine included—
is exclusive. Hence, personal codes are transferable. Nor is any existence
free from accidents, happy or tragic.
To test my formula, I staked my life on it.
Following a tormented adolescence marked by physical weakness and financial need, I departed acting and writing for a publishing career at once more financially stable and quotidian. I departed—but did not abandon.
Today, at age sixty, I excel in tough, tough fields that fulfill my younger dreams: writing, speaking, and television.
It is very difficult. My success is real. And earned.
In Milton’s Paradise Lost, the demon Mammon declares: “Hard liberty before the easy yoke.”
If you saw my finances—proudly independent from age seventeen with zero family money—and my CV—which is publicly available—you would see that I live out the statements proffered in this article and in everything that I say and write.
I must add: while pursuing these efforts, I parented two sons—one is in the room as I write these words—and held a three-decade corporate publishing job, from which I was fired in 2017 as a vice-president at Penguin Random House.
I was ready.
Damn me if I forget what I did not earn, including the boons of geography, demography, and era. I hate the nostrum, “There are no accidents,” misappropriated from the work of scientist-mystic Emanuel Swedenborg
(1688-1772), which I explore in the postscript. Those are accidents. I am in debt for them.
I did not conceive this article intending to, but you will find that I repeatedly cite figures from the modernist Russian intellectual tradition. I do so because they sought development in a milieu historically harsher than my own. Their hard liberty, too, is earned.
Now for my code. Each of its four principles is defensible on ordinary grounds. But—each also harbors a metaphysical dimension . . .
