Kylian Mbappé cannot afford a joke. Ha!
Kylian Mbappé was dropped by Chinese sponsors after laughing at an image of his face on former Chinese leader Mao Zedong’s body and referring to him as a “dictator,” in a video on social media. 🔗 on.wsj.com/4ze9Brf

Try convincing someone on $100 a month about the benefits of collective bargaining, and hand them gossip to better their own situation.
I’m finally accepting that Cameroon might never change, simply because we, the working class, lack solidarity. The elites are well-structured and look out for one another, while the poor constantly fight among themselves. Whenever I call out elite nepotism, it’s my fellow poor people who attack me. Don’t you realize we’re on the same team? If the children of the elites were truly so competent, why does our nation keep regressing? Why is their "competence" only ever on display in public administration? They send their kids to medical school, yet when they get sick, they fly abroad for treatment instead of trusting their own children. They send their kids to EMIA, where they graduate into high ranks as captains stationed safely at airports, while the children of the poor are sent to the front lines of war. They send their kids to ENAM to manipulate the justice system in their favor, leaving the rest of us desperately begging for justice. Keep defending nepotism and bad governance, hoping that one day you'll climb the social ladder. While we suffer and die in misery, the elites will continue to multiply and consolidate power at the top.

There are bars in Rwanda that only serve milk, and tourists are visiting the country just to try them. Al Jazeera’s @MarahRayan finds out what’s behind this unusual drinking culture.

💧 Across eastern Chad, access to safe water remains a major challenge. Despite the efforts of UNHCR and its partners, water availability remains below emergency standards in eastern Chad🇹🇩. With support from donors such as @SpainMFA, @KuwaitFund, @eu_partnerships, @eu_commission and @mofauae, @Refugees is building family latrines, boreholes, water tanks and pipelines to benefit refugees and host communities in eastern Chad.

Substack in particular pains me, great platform that takes from African creators but won't give them a cent. What's the point of Stripe buying Paystack if it cannot help remote workers across Africa get paid? Flies over the heads of these clowns who get summoned and paraded.
Don't have a problem with reparations, but if someone robbed you, you're better off building a fence than turning up at their gate with a bowl. Fair trade, intra-african trade, electronic payments, getting Meta/Substack/YouTube to pay African creators should get more attention.

For many years, Nairobi was a safe place for those running away from repression at home, refugees fleeing the ravages of war and for pro-democracy campaigners from the region and beyond. This is no longer the case. Kenya is increasingly becoming the abductors’ paradise and East African centre for transnational repression. The security collusions of rogue states is eroding the stature of Nairobi as the haven of democracy and security. The abduction of Ugandan leader Kizza Besigye Kifeefe and the recent abduction of Tanzanian activist Twaha Mwaipaya are just two examples of what is a now long list of State sponsored transnational abductions. We must not let this continue. We must restore Kenya's image and previously sparkling reputation as a safe community for democracy and human rights advocates.

Reparations and maps people showing us how it's done.
60 Minutes obtained the names of 63 people on a deportation flight from Texas to West Africa. Of the 19 people we reached who were sent to Ghana, 17 say Ghana then transported them against their will to their home countries — places U.S. immigration judges had ruled they should not be returned to. A Department of Homeland Security lawyer told 60 Minutes he was not aware of cases in which Ghana had sent deportees home against their will. He also said he believes third-country removals have prevented crimes and made Americans safer. cbsn.ws/4yNhS4B

Kenya, despite its challenges, is best positioned to lead African democracy. Young people are aware and consciously seeking ways to learn about the past, how to move forward. They have an appetite for what's happening on the continent.
