This was one of those days where the race unfolded almost exactly as I’d envisaged beforehand.
Two proven track specialists.
Two horses that relished soft ground.
Two wide draws – a big advantage at Catterick when the ground gets testing.
The plan was simple: break well, grab the rail and prove strongest in the closing stages.
Thankfully, that’s exactly what happened.
+75 points returned from just a 5-point outlay.

One of those races where you knew a long way out but you didn’t want to jinx by counting your winnings early

The Flat vs Jumps debate
I’ve always been in a slightly strange position with this one.
Day to day racing? Give me the Flat every time. I much prefer studying it, following the horses and getting stuck into the form.
But when it comes to the big festivals, nothing quite beats the atmosphere and excitement of the Jumps. Cheltenham in particular.
Anyone else the same, or are you firmly in one camp?
Some really interesting novice races at Kempton tomorrow, particularly the 3:30.

👀 HORSE TO FOLLOW - FRUMOASA
An interesting run from Frumoasa at Chelmsford yesterday.
Drawn wide, pushed forward into a strong early pace and forced to race three wide throughout.
Despite doing plenty of work early, she rallied in the closing stages when you’d normally expect her to weaken.
I think she’s crying out for a step up to 7f, and her pedigree offers encouragement too.
