TALENT NEEDS A RECRUITING PLAN. Four moves to make your next step specific: 1. Introduce yourself. Send a concise, personal email with your graduation year, position, school, academics, verified measurables and a working video link. Explain why that program interests you. Use the staff’s official contact details. 2. Research a broad, realistic school list across levels. Fifty schools can be an example starting exercise—not a rule or a mass-email quota. Refine the list with your family and coaches. 3. Prioritize fit: academics, cost after aid, current roster needs and player development. Ask coaches how they see your potential role. Playing time is not guaranteed. 4. Keep your own tracker: school, coach, email date, reply, next step and follow-up date. Follow up with a useful update, and respect the program’s instructions. Keep developing as you follow through. Update your video and measured results as your game changes. NCAA communication rules vary by sport, division and grade level, so a delayed reply is not a complete evaluation of your ability. START WITH A PLAN. Get your free RecruitIQ projection as one starting point for planning: topvelocity.org/recruitiq/ Projection estimates are not recruiting offers, scholarship promises or guarantees of an outcome. 80 PITCHES SATURDAY. BACK ON THE MOUND SUNDAY? At age 14, an 80-pitch Saturday requires four pitching-rest days—Sunday through Wednesday—under Pitch Smart. Build a season-long development plan: • Respond to arm fatigue. Stop throwing when the athlete is tired; elbow or shoulder pain needs evaluation. • Track the whole year across teams and coaches. Keep game pitches, other throwing and intensity in the same conversation. • Plan time away from throwing each year. • Develop age-appropriate strength, mobility and movement skills with qualified coaching. Keep recovery in that plan. Develop velocity alongside physical preparation, workload management and recovery. A young pitcher’s plan should reflect their age, development and current condition. BRING THE SCIENCE HOME. Share this with a coach or parent who puts athlete health first. Does more hip–shoulder separation always mean more velocity? [Certain] In 335 NCAA Division I pitchers, a recent study found a weak positive relationship between hip–shoulder separation and pitch velocity, with substantial variation between pitchers. [Certain] The researchers observed pitching mechanics. They did not test whether training every pitcher to create a bigger separation angle makes that pitcher throw harder. [Likely] The practical takeaway: review the angle in the context of your whole delivery instead of treating one number as a velocity guarantee. [Certain] TopVelocity’s free MechanicsDNA Mini reviews five training-focused 2D checkpoints from a pitching video, including separation at foot contact. Contact details are required; no account or credit card is needed. Want to review your own delivery? Coach keeps saying, “Use your lower half” — but pushing harder still isn’t fixing it? You may be missing torsion. At TopVelocity, torsion means loading the drive hip toward external rotation while maintaining usable pressure through the drive foot. Then the hip transitions toward internal rotation as the leg extends and the pelvis turns. The goal is not to twist the knee or force separation. It is to let the pelvis lead long enough for the sequence to build: 1. Pelvis rotation 2. Upper-trunk rotation 3. Elbow extension 4. Shoulder internal rotation That is how the lower half starts a chain instead of just pushing. Find where your chain breaks. Upload one pitch to the free MechanicsDNA Mini and get five mechanics markers—no account or credit card required: topvelocity.org/mechanicsdna… #pitchingmechanics #pitchingvelocity #baseballtraining #pitchingdevelopment #topvelocity Anatomical visualization: BodyParts3D/DBCLS, CC BY-SA 2.1 JP. Pitching will humble you long before life does. You can execute perfectly and still give up a hit. You can fall behind 3–0 and still win the at-bat. One pitch does not decide your season. Reset. Trust your stuff. Control the next pitch. Keep shoving. Which slide did you need today? Comment the number, save this for your next tough outing, and send it to a pitcher who needs it. Advriel González | 85–90 MPH The radar gun tells you where you are. The evaluation tells you why you’re there — and where the next MPH can come from. Advriel’s latest TopVelocity evaluation: ⚾ Top Velocity: 86.5 MPH 📏 6’0” | 185 lbs ⬆️ Vertical Jump: 26” ➡️ Broad Jump: 96” 💪 Total Body Strength: 550 lbs 🏃 10-Yard Sprint: 1.67 sec 🌀 Spin: 1,979 RPM 📈 Vertical Break: 14” And this is exactly why we evaluate. We’re not guessing that he needs to “throw harder.” We’re identifying the physical qualities currently limiting how much force he can produce, transfer, and ultimately put into the baseball. The goal isn’t 90. The goal is to build the athlete capable of living beyond it. Mobility. Strength. Power. Speed. Mechanics. Measure it. Train it. Re-test it. That’s player development. The fastest pitch is not always the toughest pitch to hit. We ranked five MLB pitch families using four seasons of Statcast data—2022 through 2025 and at least 50,000 pitches per type. The model rewards lower expected damage, more whiffs, and more swings outside the zone. The result: the splitter finished #1 in this framework. The college slide is intentionally labeled differently. There is no public NCAA-wide Statcast database, so those numbers are shown as a recent college-level TrackMan proxy plus peer-reviewed D1 benchmarks—not a national D1 ranking. Save this for your next pitch-design session, and send it to the pitcher who still thinks velocity tells the whole story. Want to know how your best pitch actually grades? Ask ten baseball players which position is hardest and the argument starts before the lineup card is finished. We ranked all nine defensive positions plus DH from #10 to #1 using the demands that change games: skill, decisions, pressure, range, workload, and repeatability. Some picks will feel obvious. At least one will not. Where did your position land—and what would you change? Send this to the teammate who will fight you on #1. Save it for the next dugout debate. 90 MPH is the headline. The evaluation tells the story. Alvaro Perez hit 90 MPH. His latest TopVelocity evaluation — #408 — supplied the supporting profile: 2,069 RPM, 20 inches of induced vertical break, and the power and mechanics metrics below. Under the hood: - 593°/s pelvis rotation at front-foot strike - 959°/s trunk rotation at front-foot strike - 138.8° arm external rotation at MER - 19.9° hip–shoulder separation - 32-inch vertical jump - 116-inch broad jump - 760 pounds total-body strength / 3.53× bodyweight The radar tells you what happened. The evaluation tells you what to train next. Save this for your next assessment. Send it to a pitcher training without a baseline. You used to ask for one more pitch. Now, some days, you’re watching the clock. Every number started to feel like a verdict. Every at-bat felt like an audition. The game you dreamed about became the place you were most afraid to fail. The answer isn’t to stop caring about development. It’s to train with purpose without losing the part of you that couldn’t wait to play. BUILD THE PLAYER. KEEP THE JOY. You say you want to separate yourself. Does your routine say the same? ⚾ Five habits of an average baseball player—and what to change: 1. YOU DON'T FUEL TO PERFORM. Pack enough food for the day. Include carbs, protein and water. Prepare your fuel like you prepare your gear. 2. YOU ONLY TRAIN WHEN YOUR TEAM DOES. Own a development plan with your coach. Schedule training AND recovery—not random extra work. 3. YOU TRAIN YOUR BODY. NOT YOUR MIND. Practice your reset: breathe, choose one cue, compete on the next pitch. 4. YOU STOP LIFTING WHEN THE SEASON STARTS. Keep strength in your coach-guided plan. Adjust the work around games and recovery. 5. YOU SCROLL MORE THAN YOU WORK ON YOUR GAME. Trade one scrolling session for film, planning or sleep. More isn't always better. Intentional is the point. “Average” describes habits you can change—not your worth or a fixed ceiling. Don't just double tap. Choose ONE habit to change this week. Ready to train with a plan? Explore TopVelocity training: topvelocity.org/ Save this for your weekly check-in. Send it to the teammate you'd build better habits with. #TopVelocity #BaseballTraining #BaseballDevelopment #BaseballMindset
