Fantastic presentations on modern rodent control technique by @MateoFrye and @sylvia_kenmuir this morning for NEPMA's Fall training series. Effective exclusion and baiting alternatives should be in every PMP's toolbox 🐀🐭

This is the state of urban ecology in Raleigh 2022, geese forage on the little islands of grass in the shopping center and then sleep on the roof of big box store at nigh, instead of lakes. @leafwarbler @FancyScientist @sciencecomedian @brianoshea12 @naturalsciences – at Raleigh, NC

In cushy labs rat may live 24-36 mo. But in wild (cities) life is hard (seen here) w/high stress till death 7-12 mo. "Black rats dreading brown rats & both dreading humans. Outside & away from nests rats exist on the edge of hysteria." 🙄🐀🪓😬J.Mitchell (1944). D. French Pix.

The ecology/evolution/zoonotic potential of rats in Richmond, VA is essentially a blank slate - there’s been no study of them since the 1940s (that I’ve found). Excited for this project:

'Tis the season for #roadkill. Young animals are setting out to establish new territories. Found this subadult female #bobcat killed on a road within my study area near the @hhnaturemuseum. Sad, but provided a tissue sample for #genetics work.

Fishers reclaiming Rhode Island is a sign the wildlife can adapt and move into lost territory if we protect even a small amount of habitat and find ways to connect it. – at Raleigh, NC
Today was a huge day for the #RIFisherStudy: we collared the first fisher ever in the state of Rhode Island! F01 is a beautiful healthy juvenile female and made her debut on Channel 10 news. I have too many emotions to say much else! Smooth capture and such a cutie! Video to come

Three years ago this month, we completed the translocation of pine martens to mid-Wales from Scotland. We released 51 martens to secure a viable future for the species in Wales. We continue to monitor the expansion of the population and sometimes rewarded with videos like this!

I've been #cameratrapping for a long time, but never captured this before. This happened near a highway that we are assessing for its resistance to #animal #movement. The #deer seems to have gotten away as the #coyote returned 2 hours later looking tired... Ouch!

Beavers are rodents. The Word “rodent”= to gnaw. A rodent’s front incisors are always growing, and if not worn down, will lead to what this beaver was dealing with. Starvation or brain penetration were imminent (📸 Maine Trappers Assoc) #FurbearerConservation #RodentFacts #Nature

Anyone else going “batty” this year? Myself and other #NewHampshire wildlife pros are seeing an uptick in bat activity! Which is both good for business and our important bat populations. I’d like to see more Little Browns tho... #wildlifecontrol #pestcontrol @BatConIntl #bats
