Dear 2030s, Welcome to high school. You finally made it. Take your grades seriously from day one. Digging out of a freshman-year hole is much harder than protecting your GPA from the beginning. Understand that high school softball is not travel ball. The roster, coaching style, playing time and expectations may look completely different. Respect seniority. Learn from the older players. Compete for your opportunity without acting like you are owed one. Start building your list of target schools now—and include ALL levels. D1. D2. D3. NAIA. JUCO. Research academics, majors, location, cost, roster needs and where you could realistically thrive. Most of your recruiting probably will not happen from high school ball. That does not make high school ball unimportant. Use it to develop, represent your school well, become a better teammate and learn how to compete in a different environment. And do not obsess over your high school statistics. College coaches understand that competition levels, scorekeeping and team situations vary. They are not placing the same weight on those numbers that you might be. Freshman year is your foundation. Build it carefully.
