One upcoming strategy game a day:
Sekigahara, 1600 Japan, from the GMT Games board game. No dice: to fight with a clan, you play its card. Stretch loyalty too thin and your own troops switch sides mid-battle. Q1 2027.

If you like Company of Heroes, try Ancestors Legacy. Same squad RTS, but medieval: Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Germans, Slavs.
I think the battles sell it: Lindisfarne 793, Stamford Bridge, Cedynia 972. The catch: samey campaign missions and weak dialogue.

One upcoming strategy game a day: Army of the Potomac
Mark Herman's Civil War board wargame goes digital. Pass your turn too early and the enemy gets random free moves to march around you.
Out Q1 2027.

One upcoming strategy game a day:
Divided Empire: SENGOKU: pick a Sengoku clan, grow your domain, then fight real-time battles where terrain, weather and army mix decide it. Steam says 2026.
天下統一 (tenka tōitsu) = unify the realm.

You're 25, held by pirates on a little Aegean island. They want 20 talents for you. What do you say?
Caesar laughed and said he was worth 50. Then he came back with ships and crucified them all.
Expeditions: Rome lets you fight on pirate decks in that same world.

One upcoming strategy game a day:
Jyoka -Castle town-: build a Sengoku castle town and pay your retainers in rice fields. More land = more troops for your sieges. Out 16 Nov.
城下町 (jōkamachi) = castle town.

If you liked Commandos, try Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. Five assassins in Edo Japan. Shadow Mode queues their moves and fires them at once.
I think that's why it holds up: planning beats fast clicks. The catch: Mimimi closed in 2023, no more patches.

1 July 1916. A week of guns has fired 1.5 million shells at the German line. The wire should be cut. Do you send your men over at 7:30?
Haig and Rawlinson did. Most shells were shrapnel or duds; the wire often held. 57,470 British casualties. I'd have gone too.

This one's at risk of never coming out. The studio lost its funding. A Hundred Years' War sandbox where you lead the army AND fight in it, I really want this to make it. Wishlist it if you can.
One upcoming strategy game a day:
Bolt Action, the WWII tabletop wargame gone digital.
No I-go-you-go: Order Dice drawn from a bag decide which side acts next.
US, British or German: who do you field first?

Romania is one of the best "stuck in the middle" nations to play. Juggling Germany, the Soviets and your own king is pure HOI.

If you like Rule the Waves, try Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts. You design warships from 1890 on, then watch them fight in 3D.
I think that's its strength: a bad design sinks in front of you. The catch: Mixed Steam reviews, no major update since Dec 2024.

That's Saint Basil's Cathedral on a Caribbean island. In Tropico 6 your spies can steal it.
I think the satire is why it holds up. The catch: jokes repeat in long sessions, and Tropico 7 is out 28 Jan.
75% off on Steam, A$14.98 until 3 Nov, 4 AM AEDT.

In Company of Heroes 2, retreat at the wrong moment and your own side shoots your men. In Russia, scenes like that got it pulled from shops.
Order 227 was real. A historian told Polygon such shootings were "not necessarily common". Here they're a rule.
