This paper focuses on the development of French /y/ and /u/ production by L1 English learners of French over a Residence Abroad (RA) in a French-speaking country.
Using K-medoid clustering of acoustic data, I tease apart gradient and categorical change to analyse how different quantities and qualities of L2 input affect both types of development. Read to find out more! doi.org/10.1177/026765832312…

and 10 months of returning home to the L1 English environment only saw a partial reversal of the changes seen in their L1 vowel space, not a full reset. No changes were seen in the learners' L2 vowels though, showing some level of retention.
