Carpenter jumped out front to lead lap one, but smoke continued to trail his machine following the heat races. Meanwhile, Benji Hicks was making some serious noise on the high side, working his way around Drake Troutman before the first caution of the night slowed the field. 19 laps remaining! Carpenter continued to lead with Devin Moran, Benji Hicks, and Drake Troutman following closely behind. But here comes Ricky Thornton Jr.! RTJ worked his way into second, getting around Moran before throwing a slider on Carpenter to take the lead! Hicks continued to roll the high side while Moran worked his way around Carpenter for second. Trouble struck entering turns 1 and 2 when Carpenter and Hicks made contact, sending Hicks spinning and bringing out the second caution of the night! 13 laps in the books! Thornton Jr. fired off with a great restart, while Moran struggled to get going. However, the action was quickly erased as two cars came to a complete stop, bringing out the third caution. 🚨Brian Shirley Charges From Ninth to Win the Jackson 100 at Brownstown Speedway The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series rolled into Brownstown Speedway for the Jackson 100, with 100 laps and $50,000 waiting for the winner. Ricky Thornton Jr. and Kyle Bronson led the field to green, but the opening lap was wiped away after Jason Jameson spun before the field could complete the first circuit. On the restart, Thornton Jr. grabbed the early lead, but Bronson went to work on the high side and took over on lap two. Another caution followed shortly after when Dan Ebert suffered front-end damage. Once racing resumed, Frank Heckenast Jr. moved around Thornton Jr. for second while Brian Shirley began his charge from the ninth starting spot. By lap 15, the leaders were already working through lapped traffic. Shirley closed in on Heckenast Jr. and threw a slider to take second before quickly reeling in Bronson. Shirley and Bronson went side-by-side for the lead before Shirley completed the pass on lap 24. Behind him, the battle continued to heat up. Heckenast Jr., Thornton Jr., Brandon Sheppard and Hudson O’Neal all fought for position while the leaders worked through heavy traffic. At lap 40, Shirley remained out front, but Heckenast Jr. was closing. Heckenast eventually moved into second, while Sheppard and Thornton Jr. worked their way around Bronson. At the halfway mark, Shirley continued to lead as the field behind him tightened up. Thornton Jr. moved back into third while Josh Rice began making noise, working his way into the top five and closing quickly. With 30 laps remaining, the top seven cars were all on the same straightaway. Business was picking up. Rice worked his way around Sheppard and continued charging toward the front, while Max Blair and Devin Moran also began moving through the field. With 20 laps remaining, the pressure continued to build in heavy lapped traffic. Blair moved around Thornton Jr., and Rice stayed right in the middle of the battle near the front. Then, with 14 laps remaining, a caution erased Shirley’s advantage and gave the rest of the field one final shot. Shirley led the restart with Rice, Heckenast Jr., Thornton Jr. and Blair all behind him. Positions continued to change throughout the top five, but Shirley refused to give up the lead.
