My wife asked me to agree to one night with another man, promising it would save our marriage. Six months later, she was begging me not to do the same thing with someone else.
We had been married for ten years. I was 38, she was 35, and we had a son who was seven.
Our marriage had gone through difficult periods, especially after becoming parents. We still loved each other, but intimacy had become a sensitive subject.
My wife, Hannah, often complained that our relationship lacked excitement. She wanted more romance, more adventure, and more attention.
I tried planning holidays and romantic dinners, but nothing seemed to satisfy her for long.
Then she introduced an idea that I never expected.
She wanted us to have a one-time experience with another person.
Not a permanent open marriage. Not separate dating. Just one night, together, with someone she trusted.
I was uncomfortable.
She explained that she had been curious about it for years and believed experiencing something new could bring excitement back into our marriage.
I eventually agreed, but only after several conversations.
We discussed boundaries, consent, protection, and the possibility of changing our minds. Neither of us would be forced to do anything.
A few weeks later, we met a divorced man named Ryan through a social connection.
He was attractive, respectful, and understood that our marriage came first.
We spent several evenings getting comfortable with him before anything happened.
But on the night we had discussed, something unexpected occurred.
Hannah became nervous.
