To be honest, isn't this kind of a godsend for Tampa? Their window probably closes after this year, whether they pay Kucherov or lose him for free. By demanding a trade, he gives them a parachute and makes himself the lightning rod (pun very much intended) #GoBolts
Hockey is fundamentally changing before our very eyes. For the last decade, the pressure has been on the players to take less money and "make it work" to keep the team together. Suddenly, the pressure is on the teams to pay their stars what they deserve. It's fascinating.
No difference at all, really - Tampa Bay expected to be Cup contenders this season, and might well not trade Kucherov even if they expected him to leave. Demanding a trade puts them over a barrel - just like the U.S. players are accused of doing.
