This was part of a leak probe into a 2012 AP story revealing details of a CIA operation that foiled an al-Qaeda bomb plot in Yemen. AP called it a massive, unprecedented intrusion into newsgathering. CIA Director Brennan was questioned but denied being the source.
The Obama DOJ labeled Fox News reporter James Rosen a possible criminal co-conspirator in a 2010 leak probe over a North Korea story. They obtained a warrant for his personal emails, tracked his phone records and State Department visits via badge data. AG Eric Holder approved it. The source was prosecuted under the Espionage Act; Rosen was never charged.
