Thank you @JSheltzer for this clear overview. It was so nice to see two complementary stories come together! Happy to have contributed with @StrancarLab @TKoklic Infinite Biotech (infinite-biotech.com/) co-funded by @HorizonEU #nanoPASSeu.
Replying to @JSheltzer
There wasn’t previous evidence for pollution driving whole-genome duplications. But, we collaborated with Janez Strancar’s environmental toxicology group, and we tested whether several common pollutants were capable of causing WGD events in cell culture.

Especially great to see so many undergrad students attending!

Our 🔬🖥️ whizz Petra attended #DL4MIA and said it was superbly organised, extremely useful and greatly enjoyable (I'd have been even more in person, no doubt). Many thanks @jug_lab @florianjug @humantehnopole for running it, others make sure you grab a place at the next one!
Today was the first day of #DL4MIA (DL for Microscopy Image Analysis). It was quite a ride... so much so, I didn't even manage to tweet about it. Here 24 awesome students following my calling to move from teamwork to lecture... @humantechnopole @gather_town

In a nutshell: a slow-down of membrane proteins (including T-cell receptor, TCR) by aggregation or ligand binding locally induces higher lipid order, which can in turn recruit proteins that prefer such environment (like Lck, required for T-cell activation). A short twittorial 👇
Now published in @FEBS_Letters .. Aggregation and mobility of membrane proteins interplay with local lipid order in the plasma membrane of T cells.. Amazing effort by @uiztok and Co. @DrEdJenks @faldalf @caitlin_obb @nicollade @AgEggeling febs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com…

Finally, the aggregates of TCR or CD45 (which induce higher local lipid order) in passive GPMVs can attract Lck (which prefers ordered lipid environment).

To what extent this biophysical energy-entropy interplay affects cell activation, remains to be seen… But similarities of the triggering processes in immune cells (e.g. recent works of @VeatchLab on B-cells) hint at a general molecular mechanism.
