Last month I published my Putin Tax report, warning that Russian-linked hostile activity is costing the UK billions. This cyber-attack affecting supermarkets across Europe is a reminder that these threats are costly and growing. The Putin Tax isn't theoretical. We're paying it.

The Putin Tax, the cost of Russian cyber and physical attacks on the UK, is costing taxpayers in Dunfermline Dollar more that £100 a year.  But we don’t know exactly how much more this might be. I’ve asked the Chancellor to tell the public what Putin’s attacks cost them.

Britain and its allies must be resolute in our support for Ukraine. Today I have written with former ministers from Germany, France and Canada urging immediate action to use seized Russian sovereign assets to help Kyiv in its defence.

I’ve said since my first day as Defence Secretary that I trust this Chancellor to give us what we need to keep our country safe. Today demonstrates why. We’re delivering the biggest sustained increase in defence spending since the Cold War. Today the Chancellor not only restated our NATO commitment to spend 3.5% of GDP by 2035, but also to spend 3% by 2030. The gravest dangers of the 20th century are returning, armed with the technologies of the 21st. The Conservatives left our armed forces underfunded and hollowed out. This Labour Chancellor is investing in our defence - a Britain ready to fight and a country worth fighting for. 🇬🇧🌹

I had a great conversation with the UK Prime Minister @AndyBurnham, and we are grateful to Britain for its unwavering, strong, and truly leading support. Today, Britain made a strong decision to provide an additional £10 billion in financial support – £7 billion in economic support over the next three years, and another £3 billion in British export support, primarily for the supply of much-needed weapons that will strengthen our protection of lives. This is on top of the annual support Britain already provides to Ukraine. A truly strong and very timely step – coming right as Russia needs to see and feel that Ukraine will not be left alone to deal with the problems Russia is so eager to escalate. Every step to strengthen Ukraine brings Russia closer to realizing that it must end this war of its own making. Of course, Andy and I also discussed sanctions policy, and Britain will remain principled on this – setting an example that matters globally. I am grateful to Britain, to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his team, and to every person around the world who understands that standing with Ukraine is the right thing to do – that it means being on the right side of history. 🇺🇦🇬🇧

Good news on the new budget from @JohnHealey_MP with a strong commitment on defence. The UK role in transatlantic security is vital, and I welcome this move to put 🇬🇧 on a credible path towards meeting the commitment made by all NATO Allies in The Hague - to ensure we’re all investing what’s needed to remain ready & able to deter aggression and defend our freedom and security

SPOTTED: A Russian Kilo-class submarine in the High North, observed by Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1). Anti-submarine warfare is a team effort. Ships, submarines, aircraft and helicopters from across the Alliance work together every day to detect, track and, if necessary, counter any threat beneath the surface. Our posture is defensive, our readiness is credible, and our resolve is clear: to deter aggression and keep our one billion people across Europe and North America safe.

UPDATE: UK Search and Rescue Launch It appears there are two separate SAR ops running at once here off the west coast of Scotland. P-8A "RESCUE39" ZP806 #43C91D "Guernsey's Reply" appears to be heading out well into the Atlantic Ocean past Ireland looking for something, possibly the M/V MYRA which @Galwaybaywatch identified earlier this evening briefly transmitting a distress signal S-92 "RESCUE948" G-MCGG #406C8E meanwhile seems to be routing northwards towards the Hebrides at the moment which are experiencing sustained winds in excess of 40mph @MATA_osint
