While today's announcement is an important step forward, there is still much more work to be done. Yesterday, @RhonddaBryant highlighted @AlJazeera's reporting on the UK's failure to join the US in sanctioning the Rapid Action Battalion in Bangladesh.
"This case just demonstrates the significant consequences of the UK failing to act in response to such egregious human rights abuses, and failing to coordinate, or ‘multilateralise’ its sanctions."
As @RhonddaBryant highlighted, after the US imposed sanctions on the Rapid Action Battalion, a number of its high-ranking officials travelled to the UK for training, including on mass surveillance technology.
The APPG on Magnitsky Sanctions welcomes the @FCDOGovUK's announcement of sanctions on 30 perpetrators of corruption and human rights abuses to mark #AntiCorruptionDay & #IntHRDAY.

Action, not words, is what is needed.
The UK has just sanctioned 30 individuals from 11 different countries - our widest ever package of sanctions.
From 10 Iranian officials to 6 perpetrators of conflict-related sexual violence, we're holding human rights violators to account.

Great stuff @RhonddaBryant. The RAB has committed terrible crimes and abuses in #Bangladesh and there’s no doubt if this Gov was serious about #magnitsky sanctions the RAB / its leadership would be on the list. @LabourCHR #sanctions #humanrights
Citing the latest @AJIunit report on Bangladesh, UK Labour MP Chris Bryant (@RhonddaBryant) queries UK FCDO minister for Indo-Pacific @annietrev re: sanction (or lack thereof) against Rapid Action Battalion. Very strong statement 👌 Vid. via @ZulkarnainSaer

#IPAC statement on new evidence of abuses by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
#IPAC calls for trade sanctions against the #XPCC and its corporate holdings, and for #Magnitsky sanctions against XPCC and PRC officials responsible for abuses in the Uyghur Region.
📢 Following our debate on #Magnitsky #sanctions last week and @RhonddaBryant highlighting the case of @vkaramurza, the UK has sanctioned Russian Minister of Justice Chuychenko and Deputy Minister of Justice Sviridenko for their suppression of opponents of the war in Ukraine.
The APPG on #Magnitsky #Sanctions will hold the Government to account. We will continue to encourage the FCDO to use #Magnitsky #sanctions to respond to the most egregious cases of human rights abuses and corruption worldwide.
Replying to @RhonddaBryant
@RhonddaBryant highlighted the case of @vkaramurza, "one of the bravest people I've ever met" and one of thousands of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience detained in Russia.
@RhonddaBryant: "I know the FCDO has received detailed evidence on the following individuals responsible for such persecution: Andrey Yurievich Lipov, Konstantin Anatolyevich Chuychenko, and Oleg Mikhailovich Sviridenko.
Speaking about state hostage taking in Iran, @RhonddaBryant identified Ameneh Sadat Zabihpour and Hossein Taeb.
On individuals to be sanctioned, @MPIainDS re-iterated the need for #Magnitsky sanctions on Chen Quanguo and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, among others. #China
In relation to Nicaragua, @MPlainDS draws attention to Sadrach Zeledon Rocha, mayor of the city of Matagalpa, who has also been sanctioned by the US.
We've been told that @FCDOGovUK is working with @ukhomeoffice and @hmtreasury on confiscating frozen Russian assets.
@MPlainDS: “No matter the results of the current leadership race...the Government must remain committed to this issue regardless.”
On the lack of Parliamentary oversight of the use of targeted sanctions, @MPlainDS: “The UK government must recommit to reporting to Parliament annually on its use of sanctions and its rationale.”
