ALT Sometimes women are told to exercise to help with hot flashes and night sweats. We used data from thousands of Black and white women in four different U.S. cities and found that higher or better fitness, based on a treadmill test, and higher physical activity were not linked to less likelihood of severe hot flashes or night sweats. There are many reasons to exercise before, during, and after menopause, but lessening the risk of hot flashes and night sweats does not seem to be one of them.

ALT We trained teachers to start InPact, a program that adds short exercise breaks during the school day. Over one year, behavior referrals for the elementary students in the program dropped 34%—a promising finding that helped teachers make exercise breaks part of the school routine. Simple strategies can become a lasting part of the school day.
