After more than nine years of fighting to end child marriage in California, there were moments when it seemed this might be the very last state to get it done.

We are grateful that Sen. Durbin has introduced the federal Child Marriage Prevention Act.
But we cannot prevent child marriage if we set the spousal visa age at 16 instead of 18! Or if we pay states to STUDY child marriage instead of BANNING it!
AMEND Section 10: The spousal visa must be 18 — not 16. No exceptions.
STRIKE Section 6: Do not reward states that "study" child marriage instead of ending it.

The same thing happened in California, where some progressive organizations blocked a child marriage ban for nine years. Until they finally admitted this year that they got this one wrong.
