All these families separation stories designed to make you feel sorry for immigrants should repulse you for a totally different reason. Trying to imagine my wife telling our kids, “sorry, I got let in somewhere better, but you aren’t allowed to come, so we’re going to have to be separated.” Every single parent in one of these stories is a monster. There should be like a million quotes from every single one of these parents saying, “obviously I will go to wherever my kid goes.”

Just to say a bit more about this, it’s just like, other ethnic groups literally organize as ethnic groups. They create ethnic affinity organizations to advance their interests as such. The position that they should be allowed to do this, but you shouldn’t, is really just the position that they are uniquely bullied by oppressive white people, which at this late stage of multiculturalism is starting to border on blood libel. You cannot at this point honestly hold the position that white people are uniquely awful and so every other ethnic group is permitted to organize in opposition to them. And if you do hold this position, you’re agreeing implicitly to the critique that there are people who come here and continue to think of themselves and their goals and interests explicitly in terms of being different from everybody else. This is all untenable. The idea that you can make all of these considerations go away just by telling white people that it’s disgusting to notice any of it is totally absurd. This isn’t the stuff of racist fever dreams. It’s a real dynamic. And it’s totally legitimate to talk about it.
