We thought we’d introduce the lab! 🧪
We are headed by Dr Sam Robson, a reader in genomics and bioinformatics here at the University of Portsmouth and @nanopore super fan! (researchportal.port.ac.uk/en…)

Thanks for having us Bexhill Carnival!!! (We don’t work for the RNLI) 🔬🎉🧬
Huge well done Dr @AlexG0uld , you’ve been an absolutely brilliant student!
We are all very proud! 🎉
PhD done 🎉
Very happy to have passed my viva with minor corrections. Thank you to my examiners @iamolivergibson and @H_Massey1979 for an enjoyable discussion. A big thank you to my supervisors, Jo Corbett, @ProfMikeTipton, and Sam Robson for your support over the last 4 years.

Did you know higher altitude residents have shown lower incidence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus? ⛰️
Check out this paper (with collaboration from us) to see how this could be a potential therapeutic treatment! 🩺

Very excited to share our work at @CEI_UoP with @MatildaBiology on Brighton seafront on the 1st June!
Come discover how microbes can break down plastics and how we find them! 🔬 🧫 🧬
(Praying for good weather 🤞🌞)
🚨The next speakers 🗣 for #soapboxscienceBN 2024 are Jo Herbert and Matilda Clark, from the @portsmouthuni. They will present a talk on the topic
"The Enzyme Revolution: How the Environment can Help us Recycle Plastic". 🥼🔬🧪 @micro_jo @MatildaBiology

Over 80,000 people have signed up to take part in the #BigPlasticCount next week. Will you join them?

The count is especially important this year as the data gathered will provide evidence to push for a UN Global #PlasticsTreaty to end #plasticpollution

We're excited to announce that we are now the Revolution Plastics Institute!
Our research institute is a response to the escalating global #plasticpollution crisis, and recognises the urgent need for novel, collaborative and transdisciplinary approaches
Join the revolution
Congratulations @UoPPlastics for your institute launch today! 👏
Looking forward to working within the institute at UoP! ♻️

This is the single most rewarding thing that happens to me. When a young scientist says that they were inspired by your work.
(The banana, I hadn’t eaten any supper and was starving)
My top top highlight was watching a talk by, and meeting @AdamRutherford - who inspired GCSE-age me to give science and research a try (who knew I’d end up in final year of my PhD studying microbial genomics 🤷🏼♀️)
We had a great time at #FOG2024 - such interesting discussions and so good to catch up with all the advances in clinical genomics happening in the UK, excited to join in! 🧬
Some of our work with @CEI_UoP described in this video outlining the work achieved using Research England E3 funding, featuring our @nanopore GridION running (look at that efficiency!) and @angelabeckett10 ! 👏♻️
