Fab to hear @AnoukSpelt talking about her research on the feeding patterns of @UrbanGulls on @BBCr4today - this research is gaining lots of media interest and hopefully will help people realise how clever - and misunderstood - gulls are 🤞 bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000p78… (around 7.43am).

Second paper out of the research conducted by the #urbangulls Project in #Bristol! The gulls in Bristol can apparently adapt to our time schedules. Another paper to come soon about their navigation in the city..... watch this space! #teamgull #research #ornithology
My second #PHD chapter is now out in @IBIS_journal! Find out if #gulls adapt their foraging schedule to our rhythms! Special thanks to my co-authors Oli, Cara, Jane, @BaranesJudy, @PeterRock01 & Shane! #teamgull Blog -> ow.ly/zc9o50CfcTY Paper => ow.ly/IubO50CfcTZ

How do birds cope with gusts and turbulence? Using suspension based on the same mechanism that describes the 'sweet spot' on a bat. Our new paper describes how it is done. @RoyalVetCollege @BristolUni #birdsofprey #owls #aerodynamics #flight #sweetspot royalsocietypublishing.org/d…

Although urban herring #gulls can be approached more closely than rural birds, they remain wary of human eye contact | They still pay attention to the human eye doi.org/10.1016/j.anbehav.20… #seabirds #ornithology

Anyone with experience in building artificial nesting sites for kittiwakes (or similar species)? What works and what doesn’t? Urban kittiwakes are not always popular, and I am looking for the best solutions for facilitating alternative nesting sites.

Its gull chick fledging time, please beware that though they can fly they haven't learnt road safety yet! Please try to avoid hitting them when driving! They are a declining and protected species (like all our wildlife). I've seen and responded to many badly injured gulls already

Condors flap for 1% of time when foraging. Even in winter w weak thermals, we predict condors will flap ~2 s/ km. This supports the idea that extinct birds w twice the wingspan could have flown w minimal flapping #ornithology #PNAS @ERC_Research @NatGeo bit.ly/3j3LXYa
