The city's 23,000 street vendors are squeezed by skyrocketing permit costs and government getting in the way. That's part of why we're seeing "halalflation". So I appointed Carina Kaufman-Gutierrez as our new Street Vendor Czar. From the Street Vendor Project to now City Hall, Carina is a longtime fighter for street vendors. Together, we will make sure city laws and city government are on their side. gothamist.com/news/new-era-f…
It’s time for street vendor reform in NYC. Tomorrow, the City Council is voting on a bill (Intro 431-B) that will do just that (and help with halal-flation). My Administration will make sure the work doesn’t stop with this bill and guarantee we process new licenses, staff our enforcement agencies, and allow street vendors—the heart of New York City—to operate with dignity.

The City Comptroller is a position of tremendous power, tasked with managing the city's fiscal health and rooting out corruption, fraud, and abuse across the entire city government - yet few people can even spell Comptroller, let alone know how important it is.

BREAKING: We’re suing the Eric Adams admin @NYCMayor to end the City’s cruel and unlawful homeless sweeps. The only way to reduce homelessness and increase public safety is to ensure all people are safely housed. Full statement: homelesslaw.org/adamslawsuit…

We began meeting with City Agencies to ensure the work of the Plaza was sustainable, making progress towards formalizing the market Yet one year ago, armed DSNY agents were deployed to displace the street vendor small businesses, leaving 100 families w/out income. We fought back

How did we get here? Corona, Queens, was the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic. Street vending became a source of survival From struggle came unity, as we organized to set rules, add trash receptacles, distribute resources & host cultural events nytimes.com/2023/04/25/dinin…

The Mayor can’t declare an “emergency” just because he doesn’t like a law enacted by a supermajority of the City Council. Stop playing legal games with people’s lives. End solitary confinement & use real alternatives proven to reduce violence and better protect people’s health.

For more on how the Mayor is taking cues from the Manhattan Institute regarding Rikers, check out thread from last year nitter.cf/FreedomAgendaNY/status…
If @NYCMayor is not listening to the New Yorkers most impacted by the continuing horrors of Rikers and the broad consensus of New Yorkers horrified by what’s happening there, who is he listening to? One is the richly funded pro-carceral think tank the Manhattan Institute. 1/

The Manhattan Institute is a conservative think tank that consistently churns out bad faith arguments for keeping Rikers open and subjecting more people to its harms. This is who the Mayor is listening to when he resists the legal and moral mandate to #CloseRikers.
Kristen Edgreen Kaufman is a deputy commissioner in the Office of International Affairs. Edgreen Kaufman has also steered nearly $3 million to the Manhattan Institute through a nonprofit foundation she runs with her husband. @WillBredderman reports: hellgatenyc.com/adams-admin-…
