I’m so proud that Merton has once again been rated Outstanding for our Children’s Services. This means a lot to me because I’ve always believed our children & young people should lead the way. Their voices guide us and I’m proud of everyone who helps make that real in #Merton 💜
📣 Merton’s Children’s Services are Outstanding We’re thrilled to announce that our support for children and their families has retained our Outstanding rating, first awarded in 2022. 🔗 Read more in our newsroom: orlo.uk/qByx2

I’ve been really inspired by the stories of Sophie, her brother Hans and the other brave students of the #WhiteRose. Standing where they stood, I couldn’t help thinking about how young they were and how much courage it took. Their story gives me hope. Least I can do is share it.

Viewer discretion is advised. This is not an easy watch. But people lived through these horrors at #Dachau. The least we can do is listen and share their stories, so that nothing this horrific ever happens again. #NeverAgain

Choosing a secondary school is a big moment for our families. Thank you @Siobhain_Mc for helping local parents navigate the choices and prepare their children for that next step. Every child in our borough deserves the best possible start in life. #Merton
Thank you to everyone who attended Monday evening’s “Making the best of Secondary School choice & preparing children for Secondary School” session which was run by @Siobhain_Mc 🌹

I’ve come to #Munich because these lessons are too important to forget, especially with the rise of the far right in my own country and around the world. Munich teaches us where that journey ends. It’s a warning from history we all need to take seriously. #NeverForget

I grew up in #Merton, and I want all our children to have the opportunities that made all the difference to me, so they can enjoy their childhood and go on to fulfil their potential. Looking forward to putting this plan into action and giving our children the best start in life.

Really encouraging to see #Merton recognised as one of the best places to grow up. A reflection of the hard work of our schools and children's services. There's always more to do, but I'm proud of what we're achieving for our children and families.
Delighted to see Merton recognised as one of the least challenging places to be a child in a report from the Children’s Commissioner for England. We are fortunate to have some brilliant schools in our borough, with every secondary school in Mitcham and Morden rated Outstanding!

Thank you to @GoodGym #Merton and @SustainableMert for making me feel so welcome as we helped out at the Merton Community Fridge at @MordenBapChurch. If you’re looking for a way to get active, meet new people and give a little of your time to support our community, give it a go!

Can’t wait to race through the streets I grew up on! Thanks to #RunSouthLondon for sharing a bit of my #running story. Training has now properly begun, with a little help from @MordenParkrun! Would be great to see some familiar faces in the race: runsouthlondon.com #Merton

Good to stop by and help out at the Mayor’s Silver Sunday afternoon tea for our older residents, after a morning out with our fantastic @Siobhain_Mc chatting to residents about local issues. Lovely to meet Dean too, who’s doing fantastic work at Tooting and Mitcham FC. #Merton

Turns out I don’t know my Prime Ministers as well as I thought I did @Poli_Monitor 😂 #Lab26 #HopeAgain

I remember being in their shoes, so it was great to join young people from @UKPatchwork at their first @UKLabour Conference. Patchwork helped me believe I could #GetInvolved. So I was proud to share my journey and encourage them to think: “I could do that too.” #Lab26 #HopeAgain

I still hate needles, but the lovely staff at @GiveBloodNHS make it that little bit easier. The free snacks help too! If you can, please give it a go: blood.co.uk The life saved by a donor one day could be yours🩸 #BloodDonation #GiveBlood #SaveLives

Congratulations to all the young people recognised @JPFoundation Awards, and to our good friend Joel who’s doing great work with @WoodcraftFolk! Thanks to the teachers, youth workers and volunteers who keep encouraging our young people and helping them believe they can achieve.

The best part of last week’s visit to Downing Street was seeing the young people from @UKPatchwork ask questions and make the most of the chance to speak with and learn from very senior civil servants. I hope they came away knowing they belong in places like that. #GetInvolved

Through the #Mitcham Town Community Trust, which brings our local schools together, and SHINE Saturday School, Kristina’s given so many young people chances they might not otherwise have had. Thank you, Kristina. We’ll miss you, but I’m glad you’ll still be part of #Merton.

The year I spent in Greece supporting unaccompanied children has stayed with me, so it meant a lot to reunite with @BritishRedCross. Here’s to the next 30 years and all the young people who’ll get this chance. I wrote a little about that experience here: wearerestless.org/2017/09/08…
